Under the direct supervision of the Police Supervisor and Security Services Administrative Director, the police officer is responsible for protecting patients, visitors, employees and hospital property. The ProMedica Police Officer will perform patrols either on foot, vehicle or other means of ProMedica owned properties within the City of Toledo with a primary emphasis on ProMedica Toledo Hospital. The ProMedica Police Officer works to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment, working in partnership with clinical staff. The ProMedica Police Officer will enforce criminal and traffic laws, parking violations, engage in crime prevention initiatives, apprehend criminals and answer calls for service or safety issues. Duties will be performed in compliance with agency directives, standard operating procedures, and special orders or as otherwise directed by supervision.
Accountabilities
Patrols assigned areas. Provides law enforcement services for all ProMedica Toledo properties, employees, patients and visitors by patrolling assigned areas and taking action when necessary. Monitoring conduct of visitors on ProMedica property; questioning suspicious individuals when necessary. Investigates and reports all accidents, safety/fire hazards and security incidents involving loss, theft, damage, injury and recovered property. Prepares appropriate reports to document these incidents. Offers to care and assistance to visitors, guests, employees and patients. Must promote customer service and satisfaction at all times, treating all people in a courteous and professional manner. Must successfully complete all training required by ProMedica Health Systems and/or ProMedica Security Services as defined in organizational policies, procedures or by assignment. Must remain current in any certifications and knowledgeable in infection control and hazardous material measures. Must maintain annual fit testing requirements, BLS certification, and all other in-services required by JCAHO. Appears in court to testify. Enforces parking regulations and assist with traffic and pedestrian traffic on ProMedica properties. Enforces the law at a level that is consistent with organizational expectations, arresting individuals that are in violation of the law on ProMedica property. Works in partnership with the ProMedica community to create a safe environment for all. Works closely with other departments, law enforcement agencies, social service agencies and other community organizations. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Associates Degree or (2) years of college preferred. Minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Completion of Basic Peace Officers Academy as prescribed by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Council is required.
Skills: - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. - Must be able to write reports that reflect professionalism and use appropriate grammar and spelling. - Ability to move about hospital and external locations with prolonged periods of standing. - Display high level of initiative, effort and commitment toward completing tasks in a timely manner. - Ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment. - Organization, planning skills, high attention to detail, and follow-through. - Must deal effectively with a variety of patients, staff, customers and visitors, sometimes under potentially stressful situations. Must have the ability to work with diverse populations and possess exceptional interpersonal skills. - Ability to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries and take appropriate action while demonstrating effective interpersonal and problem solving skills in a high-stress environment. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; facilitate communication, cooperation and collaboration. - Good moral character and ability to act and execute duties in a truthful and conscientious manner in compliance with law and officer's oath. - Must maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials. - Must be able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds from ground level to a height of four (4) feet. - Must be able to assist in placing patients in therapeutic restraints as authorized and directed my medical staff.
License: Requires a valid driver's license and a clean driving record, as demonstrated by a MVR (motor vehicle record). Must maintain eligibility to be insured under the Company's insurance policy to operate Compnay vehicles.
Certification: Ohio Peace Officer's Basic Training Certification.
