The incumbent will work a hybrid schedule and business needs may necessitate a change in schedule.
This position provides technical expertise for the development and publication of Southern Company Gas' Enterprise-Wide Operating and Procedure Manual, LNG Manuals, Storage Manuals as well as other Policy/Procedure documents. This position provides expertise, research, interpretation, and insight into
regulations, codes and procedures for an array of disciplines including construction and maintenance, gas operations, engineering design, plant operations, leak operations, asset protection etc. The candidate will serve as lead on project teams to support the standardization efforts for all local distribution companies into an
Enterprise-Wide Procedure/Policy.
Functional Expertise:
Provides expertise, oversight, and analysis in the development of standards within Southern Company Gas
Provides expertise, research, interpretation, and insight into regulations, codes, and procedures for an array disciplines including engineering design, plant operations, system maintenance, premise and appliance standards, pressure regulation, uprating procedures, welding, cathodic protection, leak survey, damage prevention, etc.
Business Acumen:
Proficient at applying codes and standards as they apply to natural gas engineering. Codes include, DOT CFR 192/193, ASME B31.8 and API 5L.
Maintains working knowledge of relevant technologies and best practices. Ensure engineering standards, methods and practices are in regulatory compliance.
Engagement:
Acts as 'gatekeeper' for updates/reviews/enhancements of the following manuals: Operations Procedures Manual (OPM), Gas Construction Specifications (GCS), Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), Storage Manual, etc.
Serves as project lead on procedure development, revisions and updates. Takes the lead on working with the Business Unit's subject matter experts (SME) to develop enterprise standards. Will provide assistance to the Business Unit's SME teams for implementation of the recommended procedures
Driving Results:
Develops and drives program for change control review of operational standards and procedures
Researches and evaluates operational performance, safety regulation, compliance and cost impact of proposed standards and procedures.
Education, Related Work Experience, Certifications/Licenses and Skills:
Engineer
Required:
BS in recognized engineering discipline from and ABET accredited institution
Minimum of 4 years' experience in an engineering discipline, and rotation in a field position or special project

Five-year total engineering experience
-or-
Completed assignments in 2 engineering disciplines
Skills:
Project Management
Ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
Ability to influence and persuade in decision making
CAD/GIS - basic proficiency
MS Office - intermediate proficiency
Preferred:
Professional Engineering License, Project Management Professional
Senior Engineer
Required:
BS in recognized engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution
Minimum of 7 years of progressive Engineering experience
3 years' experience in specialized engineering natural gas discipline
Skills:
Project Management
Ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
Ability to influence and persuade in decision making
CAD/GIS - basic proficiency
MS Office - intermediate proficiency
Preferred:
Professional Engineering License, Project Management Professional Certification, Technical Writing Proficiency
Lead Engineer
Required:
BS in recognized engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution
Minimum of 10 years of progressive Engineering experience
4 years' experience in specialized engineering natural gas discipline
Skills:
Project Management
Ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
Ability to influence and persuade in decision making
CAD/GIS - basic proficiency
MS Office - intermediate proficiency
Preferred:
Professional Engineer certification or Project Management certification
