JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing high-touch, telephone customer service and back office support of health, welfare, defined benefit, defined contribution and supplemental benefit plans at Southern Company. The Benefits Specialist provides expertise in all Southern company benefit plans and programs. This position is responsible for researching and resolving escalated issues from employees and benefit vendors. This job is also responsible for the required government filings for benefit plans.
JOB REQUIREMENTS ( Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills )
Successful completion of Aptitude Test
Education: bachelor's degree preferred in HR or Business
Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience with the following:
Health & Welfare plans
Defined Benefit plans (Pension)
Defined Contribution plans (Employee Savings Plan)
ERISA
Federal and State Legal and Tax Agencies including HIPAA, COBRA, Medicare, IRS, and Social Security
CEBS, SPHR, CBP, PHR, etc. certification preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proven customer service and phone etiquette
Demonstrated strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to communicate with all audiences including employees, managers, executives, vendors, and non-employees
Ability to interpret, analyze, and communicate aspects of various benefit plans
Ability to serve as the liaison between participants and outsourced benefit providers
Ability to multitask in a fast moving environment
Ability to excel in a customer oriented HR Service Center handling customer calls
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
Proven team player, comfortable working in an empowered team environment
Experience with case management systems
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Research, resolve and respond to employees questions and concerns related to health and welfare, pension, employee savings plan and supplemental benefit plans
Provide benefit plan interpretation for employees, managers and HR Business Consultants
Handle escalated cases such as claims / appeals for health and welfare issues or verification of pension balances and service time
Coordinate all benefit claims in the case of active employee death
Perform administrative duties for Employee Savings Plan including queries, reporting and audit support
Coordinate the company's administration of qualified orders (QDROs) for Employee Savings Plan and Pension and QMCSOs for the medical plan
Administer non-qualified retirement plans
Perform administrative duties for supplemental benefit plan including manual calculation of contributions, setting up distribution payments and maintaining participant tracking reports
Research and calculate pension service time to resolve employee issues
