Public Relations Manager - Executive & Internal Communications

Description

The Executive & Internal Communications Manager is responsible for leading a team of communication professionals focused on the development and execution of Alabama Power executive-level communication as well as managing the company's employee communication channels and platforms.

REPORTING: The manager role reports to the Brand Director.

Major job responsibilities:

  • The Executive & Internal Communications Manager serves as a strategic business partner and principal communication advisor to business units across the enterprise; developing creative internal and external communication materials/plans and ensuring all client communications align with company strategy and branding. This person will support the Vice President of Public Relations with communications needs from the office of the CEO, must have solid experience managing and reporting to C-level executives and be able to handle multiple, diverse projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

  • The ideal candidate is a thought-leader with proven ability to interact, inform and influence senior leaders on proper and impactful messaging and recommend the most appropriate and effective communication vehicles for individual campaigns. In addition, this person must have the aptitude to understand complex business messages and deliver them to broad internal audiences in an easy-to-comprehend and effective fashion.

  • Ths person will be responsible for developing internal/external communication materials, including speeches, talking points, and presentations, in support of company executives and issues. As such, the role requires strong writing, copy-editing and PowerPoint presentation skills, as well as the ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities and deadlines. Experience developing communications campaigns and producing web videos and web content is a plus.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for helping tell the company's story and building brand ambassadors among employees by managing and driving content across the company's internal communication channels. Proven experience driving adoption and engagement in internal social media platforms among employees is highly valued.

  • In addition to writing and presentation development, the candidate will organize internal and external events as needed and be adept at creating messaging for multiple channels, including video, social media platforms, online publications, correspondence and others.

What you'll bring:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related discipline. Advanced degrees, relevant executive education and industry designations are a plus.

Experience

  • 7-10 years previous experience working in a corporate communication or media environment

  • Experience directly supporting executive or C-level communications

  • Experience managing, developing, and delegating responsibility to a team of professionals

  • Experience with the energy industry a plus

  • Experience creatively developing and implementing integrated communication programs; developing a communications plan that includes research, messaging, and employee engagement tools

  • Track record of communications-related accountability as a business partner working with and advising senior executives

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas simply and meaningfully to audiences of diverse backgrounds and levels across the organization

  • Highly effective interpersonal, consulting and negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to work and collaborate effectively across the organization

  • Demonstrated ability to write for a wide variety of forms - speeches, talking points, presentations, print publications, websites, video, correspondence, magazines, fact sheets, Q&As, customer and other business communications, etc.

  • Successful experience planning, project managing and implementing multidimensional communication projects

  • Role model of unquestionable trust, superior performance, total commitment and commitment to safe work practices

  • Ability to interact and develop relationships with customers and coworkers at all levels; possesses a positive, customer-first attitude

  • Comfort level working under tight deadlines, with the ability to gather information and present recommendations to executives and clients

  • Highly motivated, ability to assess communication needs and drive appropriate responses with minimal supervision

  • A collaborative team player who is able to work independently, prioritize work, manage projects, handle details and display organizational and editorial skills

  • Ability to handle tight deadlines, multiple tasks and shifting priorities

  • Strong listening, creative thinking, analytical, problem-solving and relationship-building skills

  • Takes initiative, ownership of assignments and personal responsibility.

  • Willingness and ability to travel on occasion.
