Job Description

Summary You will serve as a Material Handler Supervisor (FLO/MVO) in the Supply Management Department of NAVSUP FLEET LOGISTICS CENTER NORFOLK. Responsibilities You will be responsible for performing a full range of warehousing/woodworking functions. You will supervise a group of WG-6907-06 Material Handlers and WG-4604-08 Wood Workers. You will review work performed to ensure the meeting of schedules and priorities, accuracy of work, orderliness of storage areas, adherence to general warehouse plans, and customer service effectiveness You will ensure adherence to established documentation, safety, material movements, and preservation procedures. You will be responsible for the safe operation of forklift and related warehouse vehicles. You will physically handle supplies and equipment and utilize a general knowledge of supply transactions, regulations, procedures, and identification codes. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to lead/supervise Example of the Screen-out Element: Ability to Supervise as it relates to leading or supervising a full range of warehousing operations including inspecting, receiving, issuing, handling, packaging for shipment, segregating, storing, stowing, inventorying, and documenting the movement and storage of material (including Hazardous) in accordance with prescribed regulations; safely operating various types of weight handling equipment (i.e Forklifts, Stake trucks); perform woodworking duties including determining materials and tools necessary and building appropriate packaging for different materials. I have performed the following range of supervisory tasks including planning work schedules, manpower, skill and material requirements; select and assign work to subordinates, depending on skill level; train or instruct subordinates on procedures, specifications, instructions, plans, priorities and schedules; estimate material and manpower needed to accomplish specific jobs; determine work procedures; implement new functions; develop and implement new work improvements; inspect work in process and provide technical direction to resolve problems regarding completion of work schedules, quality assurance issues, conformance to specifications, efficient work progress, housekeeping and safe operations; keep higher level supervisors informed of work schedules, progress, manpower, skills, materials, technical and personnel problems; recommend selection of employees, disciplinary action, and evaluate performance of subordinates; plan and implement on-the-job training for subordinates in the specialized skills of the unit supervised; prepare production reports and work records; lead by example to provide an accurate, efficient productive workforce.
