Job Description:
Parsons is now hiring a highly driven, talented, and, successful Structural Engineer to lead the Bridge Design Practice for our transportation design team in Virginia.
We are looking for a strong leader to join our team; one who inspires loyalty and commitment and understands how to design and deliver leading-edge ridge projects. This position will report to the Parsons' Virginia Operations Manager and requires a track record of managing bridge design projects along with familiarity with VDOT standards.
Based in our Centreville, Virginia office, this position will play a key role in pursuing and executing projects, talent management, business development, and directing and managing large/complex projects. The successful candidate will be an effective -seller/doer- who balances business development and project management responsibilities. Travel to client or project site locations may be needed periodically
Responsibilities:
Prepare, coordinate, and supervise structural engineering, analysis, and modeling for civil structures, including bridge and retaining wall structures.
Assure that the bridges are designed in accordance with approved Federal, State, and local agency requirements as well as AASHTO LRFD Specifications, practices, and procedures. Design in both concrete and steel structures.
Create a challenging professional environment of innovation, opportunity, development, and continuous improvement for the bridge design team; drive organic growth.
Recruit, mentor, retain, and develop top industry talent to enhance the current high-performance culture. Provide input to performance reviews and development plans for subordinates.
Demonstrate commitment to quality and continuous improvement through innovation, creative thinking, and improved results.
Monitor productivity and technical proficiency of assigned teams
Ensure consistency in project quality; review work produced to ensure all project requirements are met.
Work with other managers, project engineers, and discipline leads to develop budgets, schedules, and plans for the various elements of a project. Monitor and ensure compliance with scope, schedule and budgetary constraints. Negotiate change orders with Clients as appropriate.
Assist with proposal development and responding to RFQs; Winning and managing complex and major bridge projects - traditional design as well as design-build.
Lead or support the structural efforts on design build projects with team of engineers in co-ordination with other discipline leads.
Establish and maintain cooperative and productive work relationships with all employees, other discipline leads, clients, contractors and other stakeholders.
Collaborate with other structural design leads across the company and support major bridge design projects around the country as needed.
Qualifications:
15+ years of bridge design and engineering experience.
BS in Civil or Structural Engineering is required. MS in Structural Engineering is preferred.
Virginia PE licensure is required
Comprehensive knowledge of industry & VDOT standards.
Demonstrable experience of leading structural design projects including, multiple-span, steel or concrete bridge engineering, design and/or rehabilitations, along with plan development and material specifications.
Proven track record with project and staff management and inter-disciplinary coordination on large bridge and highway projects
Proficiency with the following design software:
Microstation
LEAP Bridge and VDOT Design programs
Merlin Dash or MDX
Finite element analysis
Proficiency with Bentley OBD a plus
Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, engineers, contractors and other team members.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment

Salary Range:
$104,200.00 - $182,400.00
