JOB SUMMARY:

The Productivity Technologies Manager position is responsible for overseeing collaboration tools used by the enterprise. The collaboration toolset is largely Microsoft based and includes Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Power Platform. The position also performs enterprise management for non-Microsoft based tools including Adobe and Miro. The position manages 8-12 employees or contract staff responsible for the architecture, engineering and 3 rd level support of the product set managed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business, or another related field, is required.

  • Extensive knowledge of technology related disciplines, with a strong focus on collaboration products including Office 365. The incumbent must be knowledgeable on current and emerging relevant industry related products, techniques, and trends.

  • Attitude is critical, the incumbent must have a high degree of focus on quality and the business partner's technology experience. The Production Technologies Manager must be willing to challenge the status quo for the betterment of the business and the services provided.

  • Strong business acumen is mandatory. While the main core of this function is to provide collaboration technology solutions and services, the incumbent must constantly be mindful of the importance that the offered solutions provide excellent business value. The Productivity Technologies Manager is expected to stay attuned to the market and adjust solution sets as needed to ensure Southern Company is maximizing the value of its technology investments and expenses. This includes evaluating new product releases for environmental fit.

  • Working knowledge of how the Technology Organization plays a key role in the successful daily operations across Southern Company.

  • Excellent vendor / supplier management skills. Our technology suppliers are a vital part of our technology eco-system; they need to be leveraged fully. The incumbent needs to be able to both negotiate with our vendor partners and hold them accountable for the service level quality they contractually committed to. The incumbent should be able to interface with technology vendors to define roadmaps, escalate issues, and solve complex problems.

  • Knowledge of the budgeting process and how to appropriately estimate costs and plan for ongoing technology projects and maintenance. Must understand basic budgetary principles and techniques, being able to distinguish, plan, and oversee capital and operating budgets. Knowledge of the Microsoft Renewal process and/or experience with Microsoft contract negotiations is a plus.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Productivity Technologies Manager leads the teams responsible for architecting, engineering, and integrating our collaboration environments. This position has ownership of the delivery of collaboration products to business partners across Southern Company. Technologies include Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Power Platform, Power Automate, Miro, Adobe and Drop Box. This team evaluates products for enterprise adoption and evaluates existing product changes for adoption and environmental impact. Constant vendor driven and environmental change requires strong leadership to evaluate opportunities and avoid issues on an ongoing basis. Additionally, it requires the Productivity Technology Manger to maintain technical currency.

The Productivity Technologies Manager is expected to continually analyze demand against capability, compared to costs; and continually make recommendations to stretch our technology dollars further. This position is key in budgeting and forecasting associated with the collaboration product set.

The incumbent is expected to stay abreast of business needs/changes, along with emerging trends, techniques, or solutions pertaining to the collaboration technology space. It is expected that the Productivity Technologies Manager is strategic, someone who can look ahead and create long range vision, strategies, roadmaps, and plans. When business needs arise for new capabilities or unplanned demand the Productivity Technologies Manager is expected to respond quickly and effectively. This requires continuously evaluation of demand and reprioritization of work based on ever changing business dynamics.

The position must also develop and maintain strong relationships with key technology managers within the Workplace Solutions, Infrastructure, Security, and Compliance. Collaboration tools include file sharing components that require a cross-functional partnership to manage. This position works especially closely with the Messaging and Conferencing Manager. Developing and maintaining a strong cross functional team across Messaging and Productivity is crucial.

Managing our vendor or supplier partners is a vital element of the Productivity Technologies Manager role. Negotiating best pricing, along with holding our supplier partners accountable for delivering quality solutions, based on committed timeframes is something that requires a constant focus.

For Southern Company to maximize the benefits from our technology spend, it is vital that our business partners are knowledgeable and informed on the effective use of the technology they utilize. The Productivity Technologies Manager is responsible for providing education to business partners across Southern Company on how to use their technology, and to provide instructions to other partner groups, such as the Workplace Support teams on how to support the technology.

The Productivity Technologies Manager is responsible for attracting, developing, retaining, & managing a diverse group of technical individual contributors. In this role, the incumbent has responsibility for hiring, performance management, and terminations and for providing daily work direction, feedback and coaching to their direct reports. They are also responsible for workforce planning for their organization and for appropriately identifying and developing successors for key roles within their team.

Expense and budgetary oversight is a vital element of the position. The incumbent is directly responsible for managing a departmental budget and software spending of $10M annually. This role also either highly influences or controls technology spend that is applied directly to the business units' budget. In addition to departmental and asset budgets, the Productivity Technologies Manager is expected to ensure financial accountability for any project work under the department's sponsorship.
