The Digital Modernization Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Database Administrator / Engineer to work in our Gaithersburg, MD office. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the FTC SNS mission. In this mission we provide database, application software, and security solutions to Federal customer and their greater law enforcement community in fight against the consumer fraud, identity theft and other do not call violations and support their consumer protection mission.

Duties of the role:

  • Implements and maintains smooth operation and physical design of databases. Reviews database design and integration of systems, provides backup recovery and makes recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements. Maintains security and integrity controls.

  • Formulates policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management, and monitors transaction activity and utilization. Responsibilities include database loading; development and management of operational procedures; environment management; database health (e.g. monitoring, proactive and reactive responses); resource planning; database upgrade planning; backup and recovery strategy planning and implementation; environment transition planning (development, test, stage, production).

  • Design and develop scalable data pipeline processes necessary for collecting, cleansing, enriching, storing, and analyzing large volumes of data to support program's data driven initiatives.

  • Perform database and system administration with SQL Server 2017 or later, MS SQL Reporting Services, SQL Analysis Services, and SQL Integration Services, including Windows 2016 or later with Active Directory, and Linux OS. Ensure smooth 24x7 operation of production, staging, and test databases, including proactive and reactive responses.

  • Review database design and integration of systems, provide backup recovery and make recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements. Maintain security and integrity controls.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree years with a minimum of 4 years of experience, or years of professional experience with a related master's degree.

  • The candidate should be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

  • Should possess strong skills in database design and architecture, including troubleshooting and optimizing database performance, profiling, and tuning SQL queries and stored procedures. They should be able to install and configure high-availability SQL servers, manage replication, partitioning, and scaling.

  • Familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Centrifuge is a significant advantage. Additionally, they should ensure that all database systems and services meet performance requirements.

  • The candidate should have experience in production database administration for SQL Server 2008R2 or later, particularly in web application hosting environments with database sizes over 500 GB. They should be skilled in managing MS SQL Reporting Services and report development, as well as MS SQL jobs and ETL processes, including SQL Integration Services. Expertise in MS SQL Analysis Services, Cube databases, and MDX queries is required, along with experience in SQL recovery through log-shipping and backups.

  • The candidate should have experience with multiple cloud technologies, including AWS and Azure. He/she should be familiar with SQL and NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.

  • Experience with cloud-native Data Lakehouse solutions like Azure Synapse, Databricks, AWS Lakehouse, and Azure Fabric is essential. The candidate should be proficient with cloud-based data engineering tools such as AWS Glue, Lambda functions, Azure Functions, ADF, and Synapse Pipeline. Scripting skills with PowerShell and AWS/Azure CLIs are also required. Additionally, they should have knowledge of cloud scalability, FinOps, and resource utilization control.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Troubleshoot server network connectivity and RAID arrays; experience with Amazon Web Services and Azure cloud environments

  • Manage SQL SSAS, Transparent Data Encryption

  • Production experience with no-SQL technologies like Solr, Hadoop, Spark, Dynamo DB Maintain good relationships with Data Management Staff, clearly communicate issues and solutions to all stakeholders

  • Maintain data security through access management and encryption

  • Apply patches using an automated tool and manually, minimize system downtime

  • Monitor availability, tune performance of data processing applications,

  • Participate in Web application troubleshooting

  • Submit Configuration Change Board requests per LM procedures

  • Participate in code deployment and configuration management

  • Perform other tasks per Standard Operating Procedures

Pay Range:

Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00
