The Role : Xylem seeks to hire an IT system administration intern who is a junior or higher in an undergraduate or graduate program that focuses software development, computer science, information technology or a similar program. This role is year-round and will have the ability to work up to twenty (20) hours per week. This role is only available to candidates in the U.S., in the eastern, central or mountain time zones. Hours are flexible Monday-Friday and can vary from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm eastern depending on class schedules. The ideal candidate has interests in working with management and engineers on projects, tools and software, providing reports and project management to facilitate requirements for Xylem's digital applications utilized by customers around the world. This role would work with a variety of teams to deploy, configure and maintain infrastructure used to support Xylem's digital customers in public and private cloud. This role would report to management in the Global Cloud Infrastructure team here at Xylem and provide exposure to a large variety of tools and job functions to help the candidate understand a variety of roles in IT.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Utilizing a variety of tools such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, Atlassian's Jira and Confluence, and a variety of additional technologies, provide reports to leadership.
Work with management to provide reports and projections on tool utilization, capacity management, performance of environments, etc.
Work with team members to learn how to deploy and configure infrastructure with Ansible and Terraform.
Follow documented steps for day-to-day processes to deploy and manage infrastructure.
Create or update documentation when gaps are found.
Distribute reports to internal stakeholders and update based on feedback.
Document, address, and resolve any end-to-end process related issues.
Utilize agile concepts to manage day-to-day workloads.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a junior or higher in an undergraduate program.
Must be local to the Raleigh or Boise area.
Experience with scripting and development technologies.
Experience using common Microsoft Office tools to review, create and update documentation, reports, and diagrams.
Willingness to learn new concepts, tools and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates are in programs related to software development, computer science, information technology or a similar program.
Preferred candidates have a high-level knowledge of public cloud providers such as AWS or Azure.
Preferred candidates will have experience with Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence.
Ideal candidates will have a high-level knowledge of common private cloud infrastructure technologies such as VMware, NetApp, and Cisco.
Ideal candidates will have experience with Ansible and/or Terraform.
Preferred candidates are in the Raleigh, North Carolina or Boise, Idaho metropolitan areas.
Preferred candidates have experience with Excel or a similar tool.
Work Environment
This is a fully remote position. If candidate is local to the Boise, Idaho or Raleigh, North Carolina offices, there are potential office meetings that the candidate will be asked to join onsite.
Candidate will be expected to use Zoom, Teams or comparable technologies to join meetings and calls including video and screen sharing of documents.
The hourly rate for an intern is dependent on a variety of factors including major, year in school and geographic location. The average hourly rate for an intern is between $21.00 - $27.00/hour. Locations of internships will vary based on the specified project and function, and will either be on-site, hybrid or fully remote.
