As a member of Serco's Maritime Engineering Operation (MEO), the legacy of famed firm JJMA, you will be joining one of the largest and most accomplished Maritime Engineering groups with a 70-year heritage of excellence. This team works collaboratively on naval engineering contracts supporting the Navy, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and other commercial customers to drive innovation and deliver solutions that address the complex challenges. As we continue to expand our operations and partnerships, we are seeking a visionary and experienced Chief Scientist of Naval Programs to lead our cutting-edge research initiatives from our Alexandria, VA office. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of naval technology.

In this role you will:

  • Execute a forward-looking research strategy that aligns with our company's mission and objectives, driving innovation in naval programs.

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and execution of advanced research projects, leveraging your expertise in naval science and technology.

  • Foster strategic partnerships and collaborations with government agencies and industry leaders to advance naval research initiatives.

  • Lead and inspire a diverse team of scientists and engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and resources to maximize their potential and productivity.

  • Facilitate the transfer of research findings into practical applications and solutions that benefit naval programs.

  • Ensure that all marine engineering activities on relevant programs comply with relevant regulations, safety standards, and ethical guidelines.

  • Represent Serco in industry conferences, forums, and publications, establishing yourself as a thought leader in naval programs.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as naval science, engineering, physics, or marine engineering.

  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in marine engineering, naval architecture, and physics, with a proven track record of innovation.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with external partners and stakeholders.

  • Ability to travel 10%

Preferred qualifications:

  • An advanced research science degree (e.g., Ph.D.) is preferred.
