AAV Mechanic
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under supervision, performs basic automotive mechanic duties involving inspection, maintenance, and repair of the AAV family of vehicles, which are diesel-powered, heavy duty vehicles having utility systems or special hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical systems features and controls designed for combat, ship loading or special applications. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Performs operator, intermediate and limited major rebuild levels of maintenance which includes spot painting. Provides technical assistance, guidance, or training to lower level mechanics and assists higher level mechanics. Performs other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduate or equivalent. Four years of directly related work experience. Complete the Assault Amphibious Vehicle Repairer Basic or equivalent. Complete the AAV Intermediate Repair Course or equivalent. Working knowledge of how heavy duty machinery, engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions and other parts and systems work. Ability to detect faulty items, determine cause of malfunction, and determine best repair methods. Ability to assemble, disassemble, repair, or modify components and systems. Ability to read and interpret parts lists, manufacturers' and Government repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics. Thorough understanding of the principles of operation and required repairs of all components and sub-components including but not limited to the Hull, Suspension, Engine, Transmission, Up-gunned Weapons Station, crane, winches and sub-components. Ability to utilize Technical Manuals, Lubrication Orders/Instructions, Modification Instructions and Modification Work Orders to repair AAVs. Working knowledge of requisitioning requirements utilizing appropriate Stock List, Parts Manuals, etc. Possess a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License and able to obtain and maintain a Tactical Operator License as necessary. Ability to comply with all established methods, safety standards, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position. U.S. Citizen. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and Base Access.
