Software Tester - Job Summary
The successful candidate will be part of the KBR team supporting the Test Resource Management Center's (TRMC) Big Data (BD) and Knowledge Management (KM) Cloud Hybrid Edge-to-Enterprise Evaluation & Test Analysis Suite (CHEETAS) Team working on prototype BD and KM systems for DoD testing Ranges and various acquisition programs. The Software Tester will be responsible for following the existing software testing process for CHEETAS and as workload permits may be utilized for testing of other software tools such as: TENA application testing, Software Certification testing, etc. The successful candidate will work closely with the CHEETAS external development partner team and the BDKM internal team members to support the TRMCs Big Data customers by ensuring that the software being delivered to TRMC has been thoroughly tested and documented. The ideal candidate is adept at creating all required processes, procedures, and relevant documentation artifacts for the following: software testing, configuration management, bug tracking, key performance indicators, test plans, test cases, automated test scripts, standard test methodologies, change request forms, software cyber vulnerability assessment reports, standard operating procedures, etc. Candidates must be self-motivated and capable of working independently with little supervision / direct tasking. The successful candidate will have extensive technical expertise in software testing, server administration / infrastructure configuration such as: Windows Server, Active Directory, VMWare, and Linux. Candidates must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams at various levels of experience physically located in every time zone nationwide, have excellent communication skills and be comfortable occasionally providing surge support to assist customers with installation and configuration of the software packages being tested (i.e.: CHEETAS and associated server environments). The right candidate will have a passion for verifying that what we deliver to the DoD test and evaluation analyst end users is bug free and works as expected.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Provide analytical services and solutions to various DoD testing Ranges and acquisition programs
Ensure that the tools created have went through a robust test plan, have appropriate levels of documentation (whether created by others or by the candidate), and are as bug free as possible
Frequently work with data engineer and software engineer team members and interact with DoD Range analysts end users to discuss requirements, needs, and bugs
Effectively communicate at both a programmatic and technical level

Basic Qualifications:
Active or Current Secret Clearance required - Top Secret Clearance preferred.
This position requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related, technical field, and ideally 10 years of experience. Advanced degrees may be substituted for years of experience on a year-for-year basis. Software Testers of all seniority levels are encouraged to apply and will be considered.
Previous experience must include five (5) years of hands-on experience in software testing / quality assurance - unit, integration, functional, end-to-end, and performance testing.
Previous experience must include five (5) years of experience testing object-oriented/object function scripting languages (e.g., Python, R, C++, C#, Java, Bash, etc.)
Strong command of principles of: software engineering, computer programming, quality assurance, configuration management, and test planning.
Proven analytical skills and experience in preparing and handling large volumes of data for ETL processes.
Experience in the installation and configuration of server infrastructure (Windows, Linux, SQL Server.) a plus.
Experience in setting up software testing environments and services.
Experience using Confluence and Jira is a plus.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Experience with installation / configuration and/or usage / testing of some of the following: Microsoft SQL Server, Active Directory, VMWare Virtual Machines, Linux Administration, Windows Administration, Jira, Confluence, Docker containers, Kubernetes containers, TFS, etc.
Must be prepared to learn new business processes or application nuances every 2-3 weeks when new sprint releases are provided to us.
Experience with working in teams supporting test and evaluation within the DoD is preferred.
The Software Tester must have the ability to work closely with data engineers and software developers to develop and subsequently implement the best technical design and approach for new software testing products.
Ability to problem solve, debug, and troubleshoot while under pressure and time constraints is required.
Working knowledge in software testing, quality control, requirement traceability, bug tracking and corresponding open source and proprietary tools and applications. Must have an excellent knowledge of advanced methods, and experience in applying those methods to solve problems.
Ability to communicate effectively about technical topics to both experts and non-experts at both the management and technical level is required.
Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and strong personal motivation are preferred.
Knowledge of software design patterns and Agile Development methodologies is required.
Ability to work independently and provide appropriate recommendations for optimal design, analysis, and development of QA program is a must.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required, as the Software Tester the candidate will be in frequent contact with the project technical lead, be taking direction from various government leads, and will frequently be interacting with external developers and end users to gather and document requirements and implement test plans / scripts while away from other team members.
Ability to teach and mentor team members with a variety of skill levels and backgrounds is a plus.
Strong analytical skills related to working with both structured and unstructured datasets.
Excellent programming, testing, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will have experience working in government/defense labs and their computing restrictions.
Knowledge of the Test and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA), the Joint Mission Environment Testing Capability (JMETC), and Distributed Testing and Training is a plus.
Experience working with major DoD Acquisition programs such as Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) or other Air Force platforms is a plus.
Knowledge of DoD Cybersecurity policies is a plus.
