Associate Content Project Manager

The Associate Content Project Manager (CPM) manages the production of small-scale projects and/or supports the management process and execution of tasks on larger projects managed by Senior CPMs for print and digital products. Builds and maintains effective, collaborative relationships with Editorial, Marketing, Technology, Permissions, Media Research, Digital Production Services, and Manufacturing teams and vendors to ensure project objectives are met and escalates issues appropriately.

Production Planning/Development

Vendor Coordination : Assists with managing vendors, and helps with routing and trafficking of batches to and from the vendors and other internal partners. May participate in the bid creation process including bid or scales documents. Updates schedules, runs schedule reports and distributes to project team.

Focus on Results: Creates detailed production schedules with attention to component dependencies and needs for various delivery formats (state versions, technology, etc.). Maintains focus on end-goal throughout the project, while solving problems and removing potential blockers along the way.

Financial Tracking : May aid in aspects of project budget tracking and reporting.

Product Development

Risk Management : Reports potential risks to projects and interdependencies. May recommend possible solutions.

Collaboration and Communication : Actively keeps informed of any updates to project details, scope, or schedule, and keeps project group informed. Participates in and may facilitate component status meetings. Writes and distributes notes for status meetings. Works effectively with vendors and internal stakeholders across functional departments to achieve production goals, negotiate appropriate workflow adjustments, and regularly communicate schedule, specification and budget updates. Responsible for building strong interpersonal networks.

Quality control: Ensures adherence to quality standards, both internally and externally, by spot-checking project development against specs and by reconciling requested changes.

Change Control: Participates in the ongoing negotiation of project scope changes, including assessment of the impact on budget and schedule. Maintains vendor contact throughout project development. Works with Vendors to reconcile final invoices.

Data Integrity : Ensures that all Production information is created and consistently maintained in the appropriate systems.

Other Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to achieve company goals.

  • Develops knowledge of Cengage Academic Secondary and HED standards.

The Ideal Content Project Manager will:

  • Hold a BA/BS or possess equivalent work experience.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and handle learning and completing multiple planned and unplanned tasks throughout a day.

  • Demonstrate experience managing change and dealing with ambiguity.

  • Demonstrate experience working effectively in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated experience with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft applications, and ability to learn new software quickly.

  • Able to clearly communicate in a variety of styles and settings; with the ability to interpret and translate information to teams and individuals and to report effectively to management.

  • Ability to work collaboratively, provide feedback in a constructive manner and relate product requirements succinctly and effectively

  • Proven problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

  • Ability to learn and implement new processes, procedures, and standards in an environment of continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Strong attention to detail.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of publishing industry, or educational technology and familiarity with Cengage Learning products.

  • Understanding of formal project management techniques, and/or software, e.g. Workfront.

  • Relevant experience in print and/or media production, which may include but is not limited to scheduling, copyediting, proofreading, composition, prepress, design, and permissions.

  • Basic knowledge of contracts, forms, and agreements.

  • Knowledge and experience working in Adobe Creative Suite applications.

  • Knowledge of database creation and functionality

  • Knowledge and experience working in Dropbox
