Job Description

Assist in performing the Lease & Technical Accounting function and reporting in accordance with GAAP. Report lease activity timely and accurately.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the proper accounting and recording of lease activity (including new real estate leases, equipment leases, lease modifications, renewals, subleases, income leases, acquired leases, etc.) in accordance with GAAP.

  • Perform analysis of legal documents, understand technical literature, estimate property values, and document accounting treatment of complex transactions.

  • Determine lease classification in accordance with GAAP, interpretative guidance and provisions in legal documents.

  • Communicate lease testing results to Property Accounting and Fixed Assets to ensure proper accounting after classification testing. accounting issues and recommended solutions to Manager.

  • Document lease classification procedures for newly acquired stores.

  • Obtain a good understanding of the new lease accounting standard.

  • Assist with month-end and quarter-end closing of the general ledger by preparing journal entries, evaluating account balances, and performing reconciliations and analysis of assigned balance sheet accounts (e.g. closed location reserves, lease guarantees, sublease deposits, etc.).

  • Prepare schedules that will be provided to internal and external auditors.

  • Adhere to prescribed controls in performance of assigned processes to maintain accuracy and reliability of financial information.

  • Assist with ad-hoc projects and technical research to help analyze or support Company decisions.

  • Assist in the preparation of schedules to support footnote disclosures for the Company's financial statements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 4 Year Degree

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting

  • Certified Public Accountant, track

  • 1 - 3 years of total experience

  • 1 - 2 years public accounting experience (Big 4 or large multinational firm accounting experience preferred)

  • Experience in a public company preferred

  • Prior experience with general ledger accounting systems; Oracle Cloud preferred

  • Must be comfortable using Excel (pivot tables, V/H lookups, net present values, and other similar functions)

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS or ABILITIES

  • Flexible, -hands-on-, self-starter with strong initiative and work ethic

  • Must be able to understand multiple US GAAP concepts and apply that knowledge to real life situations

  • Strong communication and analytical skills to draft memos

  • Ability to effectively communicate with other departments and outside auditors on a regular basis

  • Ability to shift priorities as needed to make progress on multiple brands, projects, and workstreams simultaneously

  • Team player who works with appropriate sense of urgency and ownership to meet deadlines

  • Proficient in Excel (e.g. pivot tables, V/H-lookups, etc.) and Word

  • Ability to work in fast moving, high pressure environment
