Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
You will start your career in close collaboration with a mentor.
As you become familiar and proficient with software development processes and capabilities you will:
Within 30 days, be capable at installing a development environment including checking code and replacing components as needed.
Within 60 days, be competent in installation and triage of an Internet Protocol (IP) networking issue.
Within 90 days, development competency in an aspect of the product and resolve some software issues .
Within a year, deliver a feature as part of a team of engineers
The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
Your tasks will include:
Implementing bug fixes and feature enhancements
Prioritizing tasks in close coordination with your mentor and manager
Debugging issues assigned to you
Participation in team meetings including feature reviews, design discussions and code reviews
Attend courses and trainings to develop a foundation to take on broader responsibilities
The skills for this position include:
Good programming and debugging skills in Python and 'C'
Strong background in Software Engineering techniques is desirable.
Interest in developing new technologies and adoption of cloud-specific architectures
Understanding of virtualization concepts is desirable.
Understanding of cloud deployments is desirable.
Excellent social and communications skills and desire to contribute in a collaborative environment.
Strong analytical, problem solving and debugging skills.
Familiarity with and/or interest in learning IP Networking and Routing
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
You will report to the Senior Manager responsible for IP Routing and Networking features for the NSX product line. The group consists of teams located in both the United States and India. You will be part of the US-based team for which the team members for which team members are located in the Pacific, Central and Eastern time zones. You will have a mentor who will guide you through your onboarding to VMware and also connect you with team members and colleagues across the company.
Where is this role located?
Remote: This role is fully remote, allowing you the flexibility to work from the location you feel most productive and comfortable, or the location agreed upon with your hiring manager. You will be expected to live within a number of time zones from your team as defined by your business.
