This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Early Career Construction Engineer for our Chicago, IL office. Be involved in projects with our PMCM Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Provide limited office management of a construction management project.

  • Develop Understanding for Project Specific - Contract requirements, Scope, Design, and Construction.

  • Good Communication Skills - Develop Relationships with Clients, Contractors, Design team and other Consultants.

  • Read and understand Construction documents including design drawings and technical specifications.

  • Perform constructability reviews - Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.

  • Work extensively with the project team (Architects, Engineers, General Contractors, and Consultants) in the development and execution of the construction plans.

  • Ability to Develop and Manage a Project Schedule based on project requirements.

  • Ability to Develop and Manage a Project Budget based on project requirements.

  • Coordinate Tasks and Deliverables with Design team associated with Project Schedule.

  • Review and track progress of Contractor's Construction Schedule.

  • Develop Project Specific Reporting templates - Daily Observation Report, Weekly Progress Report, and Monthly Progress Reports for submission to client, as needed.

  • Document / Track: Technical requirements, Shop drawings, Request for Information (RFI), Change-Orders and Punch-list items, etc.

  • Attend Project Meetings - Develop and provide meeting minutes and action logs, as needed.

  • Perform Construction Oversight - Observe Construction works and provide daily and weekly progress reports, as-required.

  • Perform reviews of contractor's daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness and consistency.

  • Perform reviews of Contractors Pay applications.

  • Change Order Management - Develop a Change Order report based on contract requirements, as-needed.

  • Construction Close-Out - Track and Manage contract requirements for close-out, testing and inspections, commissioning, training / O& Manuals, punch-list and record drawings, etc.

  • Travel as required

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree.

  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.

  • Prior internship experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.

  • Valid Illinois Driver's license.

  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Office Engineering duties on small to medium sized construction projects.

  • E.I.T. Preferred.
