Job Description

We are the Azure Software Load Balancer team, a vital part of the Azure Core Networking team, tasked with designing, building, and operating critical network offerings that set us apart from our competitors.

We provide the software systems behind our cloud-scale load balancing solutions. At the heart of these services is a robust software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization infrastructure, designed to autonomously manage the network system. We continuously innovate to improve the agility, scalability, reliability, security, and cost-effectiveness of our services.

We are currently seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Azure software load balancing team and play a key role in our mission to create the world's best cloud. The successful candidate will help develop our next-generation load balancer technologies and collaborate with other SDN teams to deliver a seamless, reliable, and performance cloud infrastructure. Responsibilities

  • Build next generation offerings in Load Balancer technologies and work in tandem with other SDN teams to deliver seamless, reliable and performant cloud infrastructure.

  • Design, develop and deploy large scale distributed system with incredible scale and performance with massive amount of data processing.

  • Lad identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

  • Lead by example and mentor others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.

  • Leverage subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items.

  • Hold accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

  • Understand customer needs and translate them into product features and improvements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C and C++ OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Rust

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Rust

  • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
