Caterpillar currently has an opening for a Design Engineering position supporting Reman Salvage Development in Mossville , IL. The role will focus on developing new and cascading existing Salvage technologies and solutions for a broad range of products and facilities. This position will require strong collaboration skills and be direct interfacing with Tech Center, Franklin-IN Facility, and Product Engineering teams in Peoria IL. The primary focus of the role will be automation and mechanical deposition.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES MAY INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assignments are project oriented and incorporate knowledge of current technology as well as an understanding of the entire design process.

  • Projects will involve travel and impact all Reman facilities (Franklin, IN; Corinth, MS; Fargo, ND; Nuevo Laredo, MX; Peoria, IL), Tech Center, and External Suppliers.

  • Takes responsibility for the Salvage design concept using a variety of methods including manual calculations, FEA, simulations, and 3D programming languages (Pro-E and AutoCAD), robot languages, Caterpillar specific programs.

  • Participates in design decisions. Along with the supporting technical team

  • Provides technical leadership to Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Marketing, Sales, Service and other areas.

  • Works with considerable latitude in coordinating and providing Salvage expertise. Refines and improves Reman designs by conducting investigations and developing solutions. Receives exposure to complex Salvage processes.

  • Requires familiarity with the stages of production release and approval. Provides technical Salvage leadership and support for Product and Manufacturing Engineers, Detailers, Manufacturing Technicians.

  • Continues to drive technology improvements for both new and existing parts.

  • Adheres to established Caterpillar standards, policies, and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, etc.

  • Collaborates and leads a variety of cross functional team members including Salvage Development, Manufacturing, Facility Operations, Technical Community, and Research Institution staff to support technical Salvage solutions

  • Execute TRL and Gateway related activities that support Reman facility Salvage project completion

  • Develop project solutions by determining technical requirements, creating cost estimates, evaluating technical specifications, and identifying suppliers and soliciting bids

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum plus 1 to 2 years' experience or a masters or doctorate degree.

  • Requires excellent analytical and strong problem-solving skills

  • Good mechanical and electrical aptitude

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral

  • Good computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook software packages

TOP CANDIDATES WILL ALSO HAVE:

  • Six Sigma Green Belt

  • Automation, Inspection, Controls, and integration experience

  • Mechanical or Metallurgical Additive Manufacturing background

  • Creo 3D software or Autocad layout experience

  • Experience with Geometric Tolerancing, 1E specs, and REDI

  • Demonstrated understanding of Safety, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering Practices
