POSITION SUMMARY
Develops and administers therapeutic recreation treatment programs to facilitate rehabilitation of physically disabled patients and to maximize patient's physical, emotional and/or social well-being in the acute, medical inpatient rehabilitation department. Directs patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce and enhance performance. Facilitates the learning of those skills and functions essential for adaptation and productivity. Conduct groups for patients inclusive of interdisciplinary team, including OT, PT, and ST for facilitation of co-treatments. . Assess patient functioning, leisure and recreational needs and document patient participation in Recreational Therapy. Participate in weekly interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and meets IRF requirements according to Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) guidelines and standards.
ACCOUNTABILITIES

Conducts therapeutic recreation evaluations.
Assess patient functioning in reference to individual patient goal(s).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Develop, implement, and review recreational programs for meeting the needs of patients.
Acquire and demonstrate knowledge of patient diagnosis, complications, precautions, and indications for treatment through communication with other team members and consultations of medical records.
Give regular reports to team members, separately, and in weekly team meetings verifying status of patient's progress, change in goals, problems, and status of participation in Therapeutic Recreational treatment.
Assist, plan, implement and/or oversee the implementation of special events and attends population specific support groups.
Maintain CPR and certification.
Function independently, seeking guidance and appropriate clearance for supervisors and team members as needed.
Maintains clean and safe work environment to comply with hospital and department safety standards.
Demonstrates professionalism, participates in continuing education to maintain certification.
Demonstrates knowledge and ability to advocate, communicate and educate patients of all age groups served including those with physical, emotional, language and cognitive impairments, taking into account age and educational level, as measured by competencies.
May assist in the supervision of Recreational Therapy students and/ or volunteers.
May participate in program development, identifying PI opportunities and implementing PI plans. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A., B.S., or B.Ed.) to work in the department
Skills: Must have interpersonal and verbal/ written communication skills necessary to work productively with patients, families, physicians, and a variety of personnel. Must possess critical thinking skills in order collaborate in the provision and documentation of patient interactions and under stressful situations.

Certification: C.T.R.S (Certified therapeutic Recreation Specialist). Must have BLS.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Years of Experience: 1-3 years of experience in an adult inpatient rehab unit.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Personal Protective Equipment: Demonstrates knowledge and use of standard precautions and PPE
Physical Demands: Must be able to move about hospital and between workstations; and prolonged periods of standing. Must be able to frequently move, lift or carry light to heavy patients or equipment. Must be able to appropriately provide care to patients with psychiatric diagnosis and behaviors in the clinical setting.
