We want to make sure they're good neighbors.We offer great benefits!Missouri State Employee Retirement System / Deferred compensation plan / Health insurance (medical, vision, dental for employees and family) / Paid life insurance / Long-term disability insurance / Cafeteria plan / Paid holidays / 10 hours annual leave per month / 10 hours sick leave per month / Uniforms provided when required / Pre-service and in-service training / Access to credit union / Direct deposit of paycheck (required) / Employee health, wellness and safety initiatives / MOST 529 College Savings ProgramThe Department of Corrections is the only State agency that currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of service up to 20 years!What you'll do:Supervises crew(s) of laborers or offenders in grounds work such as mowing grass, trimming and/or removing trees and shrubs, fertilizing and seeding lawns, shoveling snow, and patching asphalt roads, hauling trash, loading and unloading trucks, moving office furnitureAssigns individuals or crews to assist skilled trades workers by performing manual tasks such as digging for broken water lines or lifting heavy objects; trains new workers regarding assignments to be performed and tools and equipment to be usedIssues tools and equipment, and maintains records of their usage/maintenance/repair; requisitions supplies; monitors inventoryPrioritizes work assignments and explains work to be performed on special projects; prepares time and attendance reports on assigned workers; evaluates performance of employees; completes work training reports on offendersPerforms routine maintenance and repair on equipment; prepares work orders for more extensive maintenance or repair; performs standard equipment checks such as oil and antifreeze levelsReceives general administrative direction; work is reviewed through inspections and performs other related work as assignedAll you need for success:Minimum Qualifications:Three or more years of manual work experience, including one or more years involving grounds work, manual work assisting in the vocational trades, or other activities related to facility maintenance and upkeep; and completion of the eighth grade(Training from a recognized vocational training school in the building, mechanical, or electrical trades may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years of the required experience at a rate of 40 clock hours for one month of experience)All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.The Missouri Department of Corrections is proud to have a tradition of promotion from within for employees looking for and seeking distinctive career paths.
