Overview

FTI is looking for a full-time SATCOM Engineer to support the US Navy's Atlantic Targets and Marine Operations organization . The Senior Engineer will be located in Portland, Oregon and will provide engineering and technical support to the customer. Position requires application of general engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, develop, implement, test, and evaluate test and training Range instrumentation systems, data acquisition and display systems, and test communication systems. Deployments of up to two or more months at sea will be required.

This position will require that you monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and update voice and data communications systems to meet mission requirements. You must be available to travel up to 50% and maintain a valid US Passport, as well as possess a current DoD SECRET level security clearance.

Responsibilities

Perform duties as an engineering team leader or supervisor developing engineering procedures and controls, managing project efforts, and taking the lead in problem resolution. Independently perform advanced, technically complex communications and data quality engineering tasking. Monitor network connectivity and ensure high quality data transmission. Provide technical support to various departments and users with regards to LAN/MAN/WAN (local/metropolitan/wide area networks) and cloud-based networks (e.g., VPN and BoD). Must be able to interface with system or program contractors, vendors, and Government representatives regarding the technical aspects of engineering programs .

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Configure, operate, monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and support mission voice systems from vendors such as Clear-Com and Compunetix including on-console support during test events

  • Configure and secure enterprise services, routers, switches, firewalls, and access controls

  • Administer systems running Windows and Linux operating systems

  • Perform equipment installs, configuration updates, and troubleshooting actions at remote sites

  • Manage analog voice communications systems across multiple locations

  • Route encrypted data between various ranges and sites

  • Accomplish pre-mission communication checks and voice instrument configuration verification

  • Maintain and update systems and patches to comply with Risk Management Framework (RMF) Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) requirements

    Manage inventory and movement of government property with associated documentation

Education/Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering related technical field with 6+ years of directly related experience. Without a BS degree, 8+ years directly related experience (High School diploma required)

  • Current Security+ or similar certificate qualifying you for DoD Directive 8570.01 IAT Level II

    Desired experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining communication systems.

  • 3-5 years of experience in supporting network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.

  • Experience performing Network, Windows, and/or Linux administration in an enclave or enterprise environment

  • Current Computing Environment certificate for Window, Linux, or networking

  • Experience with MS Office and MS Visio

  • Experience with network analysis tools such as SolarWinds and WhatsUp Gold

  • Management of government property inventories, associated documentation, and understanding of reporting requirements for tracked IT assets

  • Prior US Military service with field deployment experience is preferred

  • Familiarity with DoD test ranges such as PMRF, Kauai HI, and RTS Kwajalein, Marshall Is.

  • Good written, oral, and listening skills

  • Ability to work well in a team environment and contribute to mission success
