Description
As a Design Engineer with the Caterpillar-Black Hills Engineering Design Center you will support the design and development of various components and/or systems for Caterpillar machines. In this role you will be responsible for working with other Caterpillar engineering teams to understand and define project scope requirements to deliver an innovative solution within the specified timeframe. This may include developing design solutions or concepts through the use 3D modeling tools, validation of designs through performing engineering calculations or through use of tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), management and support of the detailing and releasing of completed designs to support the purchasing and inventory stocking requirements for various product groups.
Job Duties
Conceives and provides practical products designs using complex technical principles
Collaborate with other engineering team members to define and meet product requirements
Prepares concept, design and development and feasibility studies of complex engineering projects
Develop and maintain detailed project and validation plans
Evaluates, defines, and resolves design and manufacturing problems
Provide technical guidance to detailers and/or designers
Basic Qualifications
Top Candidates will also have
Master's degree in an accredited engineering program and 1+ years related work experience
Heavy equipment service tool design experience for tools such as: Lifting devices, stands, installation and removal devices, special use alignment tools, etc.
Good Mechanical Aptitude with ability to develop product concepts
1+ years' experience with parametric modeling software (Solid Works, Inventor, Creo, etc.)
Minimum 1 year experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and how these tools are used for product development
Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and related engineering standards
Previous hands-on experience with machining, welding, assembly, heavy equipment and/or farm equipment
Strong communication skills
Good time management skills
