The Critical Systems Technician, Sr. is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) infrastructure at key facilities in Georgia. These sites include Georgia Power's Corporate Headquarters, Douglas Hills Park, Virginia Avenue, the Distribution Control Centers (DCC) statewide, and other areas that may be considered key facilities.

This technician will be self-motivated and able to make critical decisions in support of the maintenance, monitoring, and support of equipment that can impact business operations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (includes, but not limited):

  • Always maintain a safety-first approach

  • Perform, coordinate and direct activities related to the installation and modifications of key mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems

  • Perform, coordinate and direct activities related to the installation of remote monitoring equipment for the key infrastructure systems

  • Perform and/or coordinate with specialized vendors the preventive and corrective maintenance of systems

  • Respond to the state-wide key infrastructure alarms on a 24x7 basis

  • Provide on-the-job training of all Facility Control Operators and Maintenance Technicians in the proper operation and maintenance of MEP systems

  • Oversee and direct contractor services on MEP systems to ensure work is performed properly

  • Familiar with all facility-related safety, environmental, regulatory and legal requirements to ensure compliance with company and government regulations

  • Perform inspections of the premises on a regular basis to determine need for repair and maintenance activities

  • Receive and respond to work orders regarding mechanical or maintenance issues

  • Maintain key assets according to known or agreed upon schedules

  • Calibrate instruments and tools required for job responsibilities

  • Complete administrative tasks including time reports, expense reports, etc.

  • Manage contractor performance to ensure compliance with bid documents and contracts

  • Receive and respond to work orders regarding mechanical, electrical or plumbing maintenance issues

  • Maintain required training and licenses as required

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends

  • Must have the ability to climb heights, lift up to 60 lbs., and climb ladders

  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

  • High school graduate or equivalent required

  • 2-year Technical Associates Degree preferred

  • Formal training and/or certification in electrical, electronic theory and/or HVAC required

  • Extensive knowledge in; the installation, startup and ongoing preventive and corrective maintenance for the following mission critical infrastructure systems:

  • Rotary and/or static uninterruptible power supplies (UPS)

  • UPS battery systems and chargers

  • Diesel standby generators

  • Switchgear

  • Automatic Transfer Switches

  • Power distribution equipment

  • Mission critical HVAC equipment

  • Extensive knowledge in power and/or HVAC infrastructure monitoring systems

  • Broad knowledge of electronic test equipment and procedures and/or mechanical systems operation and maintenance

  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and building drawings

SKILLS

  • Proficient computer and mobile phone skills

  • Proficient skills with energy monitoring systems

  • Proficient skills with control technology

  • Proficient customer service skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

  • Strong initiative

** This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:

  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver's license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver's license).

  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.

  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record
