The Role: Xylem seeks to hire a Mechanical Engineer. We are looking for a mechanical engineer to be responsible for the development of current and next generation products, systems, solutions and technologies from engineering perspective for Xylem AWS's global water business, encompassing turbomachines and other fluid handling systems. Accountable to achieve cost, performance targets and schedule completion for the projects assigned. Work sponsorship is NOT available. Permanent resident status and ability to work within USA is required.
Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:
Work within the design engineering team and engage in executing and leading the development of new products from conceptualization through product launch and support in ensuring all aspects of the mechanical design meet performance, schedule, quality, and cost requirements.
Work on should-costing and sourcing activities for new product development projects with cross-functional project teams located globally within the Xylem.
Use and develop both proprietary & commercial tools to analyze and solve design & engineering problems.
Work hands-on on the development, testing and evaluation of prototypes and final products and systems.
Secure patents of core inventions that materialize from the work at the company.
Participate in market research and customer interface activities, if required.
Develop costed bills of materials and component load into business systems.
Other duties as assigned by the engineering supervisor.
Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities.
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering is must.
3+ years of experience with product/component design including internship/Co-Op experience.
Experience with 3D CAD modeling software and data management tools is required.
Ability and desire to work in a fast paced team environment where you will interface regularly with other cross-function team members.
Desire and ability to work in a hands-on testing environment, learn new tools, processes, and design techniques.
Ability to evaluate and make recommendations on should-costing, sourcing, cost control, reliability and manufacturability issues and to execute on aggressive development schedules.
Excellent communications skills with the ability to convey technical concepts and design in business terms.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledgeable in application and design of rotodynamic (centrifugal) pumps.
Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Knowledgeable in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software tools.
Experience managing projects.
Creo (Pro Engineer) and Windchill experience.
Experience with tolerance analysis and GD&T. Understanding of different design standards, such as, ANSI, ISO, HI, etc.
EIT or PE designation.
