Description:
We have an exciting position open within Caterpillar as a Cost Accountant ( internally known as Accountant Cost / Decision Support ) providing invaluable cost analysis and support to the business. The incumbent will utilize accounting expertise in the closing cycle, as well as provide cost accounting functions to support business processes and provide further experience with Caterpillar accounting practices.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
The Cost Accountant will provide technical expertise and will perform more complex accounting work that supports business processes. Additionally, this position will:
Apply accounting knowledge and provide guidance on accounting issues
Participate on and lead teams
Incumbent is exposed to a variety of accounting functions and accomplish a high level of complex and/or technical analysis, review various outputs for reasonableness and advise other accountants. Incumbent works on challenging, medium to high risk issues and makes business decisions and recommendations as appropriate. Work is supported by a supervisor primarily through review of results.
Areas of responsibility are varied, including:
Responsible for monthly and quarterly closing cycle for period cost, including presentation of commentary and explanation of results to management
Analyze departmental spend and collaborate with management team for decision making and support
Work closely with Engineering Manager on Research and Engineering budgeting and spend
Serve as trusted advisor for inventory Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control documentation
Works closely with business unit management in preparation of annual business plan and quarterly updates
Provides business support to management invaluable for decision making

The Cost Accountant provides guidance to multiple functional areas and levels of authority and is capable of handling complex accounting issues such as methodology changes, reorganization and accounting standards.
Incumbent will demonstrate knowledge and ability to independently handle accounting issues. They will demonstrate very good communication skills and have a comprehensive knowledge of their business unit products, suppliers, customers, and accounting processes.
Basic Requirements:
4-year degree, preferably in accounting, finance or business-related degree
1+ years of accounting experience
Top Candidate Will Also Have:
Strong background in financial and managerial accounting/cost accounting, reporting and analysis, budget development and explanation of results against expectations
Proven record of strong initiative, leadership, accountability and effective communication skills
SAP experience

Location: Peoria, IL area
