What We're Looking For
Join our growing team in Oakland! This position supports the technical editing and writing for a range of simple to complex documents and graphics on transformative transportation projects. Responsible for performing editing, formatting and quality reviews to ensure consistency in written project materials. Also will work directly with technical staff to develop accurate and persuasive content for planning, engineering, and environmental reports and studies.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Perform technical edits of documents using AP Style.
Edit and format content written by others, ensuring consistency in writing style/voice, formatting and approach throughout various documents using AP Style.
Develop templates in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
Format Microsoft Word and PowerPoint documents.
Design graphics for project deliverables - ranges from tables/charts in Word to maps in Illustrator/In Design.
Perform quality reviews of written deliverables.
Work with technical staff to write content for client deliverables.
Interact with HNTB staff to create initial materials, concepts, and ideas that conform to client needs and timelines.
Design and perform preliminary layout of various materials including flyers, exhibit boards, newsletters, report covers and other printed materials.
Perform technical writing tasks as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
Proficient with Microsoft Office/Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, SharePoint, In Design and other communications-related software programs
2+ years of technical editing/writing experience.
Familiar with AP Style.
Knowledge of ADA-compliant documents (508 compliance).
Experience in Architecture/Engineering (A/E) fields.
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Art, Graphic Design or related area.
What You'll Need
Essential Responsibilities:
Leads aspects of internal and external coordination with project team members, including other discipline areas involved with the project.
Develops and maintains client meetings and interactions.
Conducts or directs research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning, and formulates recommendations.
Develops conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects.
Leads tasks under general direction related to the preparation and production of technical plans, studies, written reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects.
Responsible for significant portions of presentations and public facilitation.
Coordinates with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.
Assists in directing teams for small or medium sized tasks for projects.
Mentors and provides direction on the work of less experienced staff.
Assists in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals and responses to RFP's for projects.
Writes major sections of and leads production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects. Also coordinates and synthesizes the contributions of others.
Research data sources, gathers data, and conducts analysis of data for use in projects.
Develops planning and analysis strategies using tools such as GIS, traffic, or safety software to manipulate data, assess scenarios, and perform project analysis.
Leads planning processes and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field and 6 years related professional experience
Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field and 5 yrs of relevant experience

Integrates different sources of data to provide findings and recommendations to more experienced staff to move the project forward and determine solutions.
Provides direction to less experienced staff.
Develops a research plan and supervises the research and technical analysis of less experienced staff.
Leads the preparation of the report by writing portions of the report and reviewing and incorporating materials from others.
Manages a portion of the agenda by leading the discussion of an agenda item.

Collaborates by building partnerships and working cooperatively with external partners (i.e., clients, sub-contractors) to meet shared objectives.

Plans, aligns, and prioritizes work to meet commitments aligned with organizational objectives.
