The Biological, Chemical, Materials Science Branch of the Leidos Innovations Center is currently looking for a Junior Materials Engineer to work in our San Diego, California office. We are seeking a broadly trained and highly motivated engineer for advanced technology research and development programs focused on developing and testing novel materials, prototype instrument development, integration, analysis, testing, and optimizations for a range of biological, chemical, and materials applications. This is a highly dynamic and integrative environment in which talented and creative scientists can thrive working on a diverse array of multidisciplinary projects.
Primary Responsibilities.
Work effectively as a member of a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team consisting of biologists, chemists, mathematicians, statisticians, and engineers
Collaborate with engineers and scientists to automate laboratory processes using commercial and custom hardware in support of government-funded efforts for novel applications
Assist with the integration of chemistry and biology applications to develop new innovative technologies and products
Quickly adapt to evolving research needs, willingness to learn new techniques, and rapidly acquire new scientific knowledge and stay informed on emerging technologies
Candidates should follow sound scientific practices, maintain effective documentation of activities and analyses, and be able to effectively communicate findings and reasoning with other team members
Basic Qualifications.
A bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline with 0+ years of experience
U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
Team-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with people from diverse areas and disciplines
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment
Great work ethic and an enthusiasm for problem-solving and innovative thinking
Strong organizational and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications.
Existing experience developing and testing materials for structural and functional applications
Experience testing mechanical properties of materials
Experience with computer modeling and simulation
Familiarity with basic molecular biology laboratory techniques and previous chem/bio laboratory experience is a plus
Possess US government Security Clearance

Pay Range:
Pay Range $53,950.00 - $97,525.00
