If you love important, meaningful, and challenging projects and supporting the US Navy - Serco has a great opportunity for you! Serco supports the Navy as prime for their Amphibious Warfare program. This opportunity will primarily support technical and programmatic management of the new Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1700 class, and the planning of maintenance of the legacy LCU 1600 class. In this role, you will support the Engineering Team in the drafting, editing, and verification of construction drawings, technical manuals, craft specifications, design reports, etc., as well as support testing and evaluation efforts of subcomponents, craft systems/integration, and Builders and Acceptance Trials.

In this role you will:

  • Be responsible for providing technical support for all aspects of requirements development, concept development, engineering, integration and test, and performance analysis as tasked by the Lead Engineer.

  • Support senior technical personnel and project managers within the organization in various technical activities related to system and technical product development for life cycle sustainment of LCU 1600 and 1700 class vessels.

  • Assist the customer with coordinating meetings, discussions, and action items.

  • Develop change records for craft improvements and safety issues.

  • Provide technical guidance and documentation for craft changes, including installation drawings, TM updates, Liaison Action Reports (LARs), etc., as required.

  • Create, revise, and review Technical Manual Deficiency/Evaluation Reports (TMDERs).

  • Provide technical and design support on emergent issues in the Fleet and during all availabilities.

  • Respond to emergent Fleet Life Cycle support and engineering issues.

  • Receive technical guidance and training from the more experienced technical staff and provide training to junior team members where required.

  • Perform basic engineering work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation.

  • Duties include the collection of information and data, performance of various tests, and engineering computations, measurements, and analyses.

  • Support fully independent interaction with customers and provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables under guidance of more senior technical personnel.

  • Comply with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties.

  • Travel for craft audits or inspections when required.

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 7-10 years of relevant work experience. Degree must be in Ocean Engineer, Naval Architecture and/or Marine Engineering, Naval engineering. (In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years of relevant work experience.)

  • You must be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD clearance upon employment.

  • Experience and understanding of configuration management of technical manuals, and ship drawings.

  • Experience and understanding of DoD acquisition management.

  • Defense Acquisition University (DAU) certification(s) is highly desired.

  • Experience creating and updating drawings or working with AutoCad is required.

  • Knowledgeable in SolidWorks or ShipConstructor 3D modeling program is highly desired.

  • Knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.

  • Effective organization level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Prior experience working with a DoD Program Office, US Navy Supervisor of Shipbuilding, or in the Navy marine shipbuilding industry is desired.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desired but not required.

  • Must be willing and able to travel to shipyards to support craft audits or inspections when needed, usually once per quarter, or at least twice per year.
