Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our Kansas City Environmental team. We are seeking candidates who will be able to immediately contribute to the successful delivery of projects and promote growth in existing and new markets, specifically related to Oil & Gas Environmental work, as well as supporting other focus areas. This full-time position within our Environmental group will manage, coordinate and execute environmental projects related to environmental remediation and support growth and focus on expanding environmental operations. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate project experience, require a strong focus on health and safety, be detailed orientated, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work independently, and will be capable of working collaboratively in a high-performance team.

Responsibilities may include but not be limited to:

  • Managing scope, schedule, and budget for mid to large-sized environmental projects

  • Building strong client relationships

  • Client and regulatory correspondence

  • Technical report writing and review

  • Health and safety stewardship, including local field visits and tracking

  • Analyzes and applies solutions to atypical and/or semi-complex and challenging issues within area of expertise

  • Preparing cost estimates and proposals

  • Working effectively with project teams, clients, and other stakeholders

  • Coordinating work schedules with AECOM staff, subcontractors, clients and other stakeholders

  • Responsible for quality control of tasks

  • May mentor project Jr. staff in support of projects and tasks

  • Will require some regional travel for project work, and client meetings

  • Preform and coordinate environmental remediation field activities and inspections at various locations across the Midwest.

  • Keep well organized files and documentation to meet regulatory requirements, including permitting.

  • Performs a variety of tasks in support of project staff.

  • May gather and maintain specified records of scientific data, including but not limited to environmental sampling, operations and maintenance and inspections at client sites.

  • Other activities may include assisting with calculations, setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications and maintaining proper project documentation.

  • Effectively communicate with site representatives regarding schedules and task requirements.

  • Participate in other environment-related projects and tasks as required, including, but not limited to, client operations and maintenance activities at regional client facilities, often directing staff, as necessary.

  • Intimate knowledge of environmental regulations, practices, and procedures; recognizes differences or changes that would indicate the need for attention. Receives and maintains required safety training including OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER Training with annual 8-hr refresher, client-specific training, and regulatory specific training.

  • Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment, including but not limited to gloves, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes/boots, hard hat, and hearing protection while on project sites or as required by project task/work.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Environmental Science, Geology or Engineering, or closely related field and 4 years of relevant work experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check.

  • Must be able to successfully complete initial and random screening requirements including drug, breathalyzer, urine and/or hair test.

  • Valid US Driver's License to operate an AECOM provided vehicle for travel to various project site(s) to support project task(s) assignments and scope of work. For positions with driving responsibilities, Motor Vehicle Records are reviewed as part of AECOM's background check process to ensure compliance with the Company's driving standards.

  • Candidate must be able to meet medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical exam.

  • Position requires availability for on-call duty. Employees who work on-call are expected to be available to work outside on their normal work schedule including weekends, on short notice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of project management experience with verifiable experience managing or leading environmental projects

  • 5-10 years of experience in environmental consulting

  • Master's Degree is a plus

  • Experience managing and scheduling projects with environmental remediation related scope and/or wastewater operations, maintenance and inspection.

  • Experience working with Kansas, Missouri, or other regional environmental regulatory agencies.

  • Experience communicating and coordinating field work with client, staff, subcontractors and vendors.

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training

  • Professional Licenses or Certifications related to Environmental Operations

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $60,000.00 - $80,000.00.
