Description

Caterpillar's Integrated Components and Solutions Division (ICS) has an opening for an Engineering Project Leader in Chillicothe, IL. This role contributes within the Component workgroup in ICS focusing on component project line management and significant NPI delivery. This role serves as the harness component Subject Matter Expert and Project Leader in the areas of machine and engine Harness Requirements Management, Configuration Management, Product Data Operational Efficiency (PDOE), and Lean Product and Process Development. This role is responsible for managing multiple or complex engineering projects involving design, development, and testing of electrical and electronic components for use within machine and engine systems.

Caterpillar's ICS team develops electrical and electronic components for use on Caterpillar products. This position has product line responsibility for a portfolio of wire harness components used in Caterpillar equipment, both machines, engines, and other products. The candidate with manage multiple or complex engineering projects involving design, development, and testing of electrical and electronic components for use within machine and engine systems.

The position requires a person with strong leadership qualities, extensive machine, or engine system experience, and one who can work effectively across different business units. Along with leading a team of engineers this role will have oversight responsibility for ICS' prototype harness shop.

Job Duties (What You Will Do)

  • Lead, coach, and mentor an engineering team that manages a portfolio of harness products and provide technical oversight.

  • Collaborate effectively with other functional areas of the New Product Introduction (NPI) team, commercial team, and suppliers.

  • Communicate project requirements and tasks while gaining insight and feedback from the team.

  • Translate both verbal and non-verbal information from the customer, management, and team members.

  • Oversee prototype harness work in the harness lab located in Mossville DD. Help establish work priorities in the lab and communicate plans to deliver harnesses to internal clients. When necessary, farm work out to harness production houses set up for this work.

  • Serve as team spokesperson in meetings with multiple levels of management.

  • Support component and system multi-generational product strategy development and aligning program scope with those strategies.

  • Provide component technical expertise to clients positioned across enterprise.

  • Drive and coordinate the details of the following processes within the design team:

  • Design Reviews

  • New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)

  • Component reliability issues resolution

  • Cost Management and Cost Reduction

  • Supply Resiliency

  • Coordinate with businesses, sales, marketing, and platform groups to manage resources for each deliverable within the project.

  • Oversee project progress and costs; communicating status with stakeholders and participating functional areas; addressing and resolving problems.

  • Direct project staffing; motivating and developing project team and team members.

  • Communicate with customers and manage expectations, ensuring effective use of project controls and reporting mechanisms.

Basic Qualifications (What You Will Have)

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or agricultural engineering or materials science.

  • Possess 3+ years of machine and/or engine system design and development experience.

  • Possess 3+ years of NPI or NTI experience.

  • Technical Excellence : Candidate must have strong analytical skills. Incumbent will develop and provide solutions for significant technical issues related to quality, velocity, and cost objectives. Also, must possess excellent mechanical and electrical / electronic aptitude and related to problem-solving and coaches others how to resolve integration or communications problems in multi-supplier environment.

  • Project Management Rigor : Proven ability to complete complex assignments, prioritize workload, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills are required. Willing to and able to collaborate with international teams in various time zones.

  • Effective Communication and Relationships: Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience. Possess demonstrated ability to communicate technical information concisely and accurately. Empowers others to establish collaborative, healthy relationships.

  • Project Design and Development : Extensive knowledge of construction products, ability to understand the design process and standards.

  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems : Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information and solutions with internal and external stakeholders. Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution. Can resolve difficult or high-impact system problems. Can apply specific techniques to help isolate a problem and developing resolution plan.

  • Supplier Management: Able and willing to facilitates supplier partnering arrangements that share risk and reward. Can monitor supplier performance; works to resolve discrepancies between performance and agreements. Develops quality standards and controls for suppliers and ensures good record keeping.

  • Standards : Demonstrated experience contributing to and developing organizational standards and processes to drive excellence in design and development of harnesses.

Top Candidates will also have

  • Master's degree in an engineering field, business, or project management

  • Demonstrated ability to bring vision and purpose, decision quality, and negotiating to projects.

Additional Information

The location for this position is Mossville, IL

Domestic relocation is available to those who qualify.

This position may require up to 10% travel.
