This internship is offered in a hybrid format - working 80% virtually as well as 20% in person onsite at the Serco headquarters office in Herndon, VA. Serco follows all CDC state and local COVID-19 recommendations and ensures the safety of all on-site employees.
Serco's Training and Experience Program (STEP) is designed to provide undergraduate university and college students paid accredited internship opportunities to gain meaningful, hands-on work experience in a professional environment. STEP emphasizes developing the workforce of the future. Our goal is to help you build a career roadmap that provides you with challenging and rewarding learning experiences with Serco.
Serco offers internship opportunities across the following three career tracks: Business, Technical, and Engineering. Our 2022 internship opportunities are available throughout the U.S. and Canada and begin on May 23 rd and conclude on August 12 th , with 1 week off July 4 th - 8 th . You will work with your manager to identify the best working schedule for you - working no more than an average of 36 hours a week with the added perk of half-days on Fridays.
In addition to gaining hands-on experience, you will attend training sessions taught by skilled leaders in our company which provides training to better prepare you for a full-time career. These training sessions range from finance, personality in the workplace, presentation skills, resume building, and more. In addition, we believe great ideas come from all levels of the company! Because of that, each year we challenge our interns to work in diverse teams to develop, propose and execute on a project that improves our ways of working. Throughout this project you will work with Senior Sponsors and meet with members of our Executive Team.
Position Description
The Enterprise Technology Officer is seeking a highly driven and innovative Digital Transformation Strategy Intern to help develop a digital solutions and next generation technology roadmap. During your internship, you will gain experience collaborating and interacting with stakeholders across Serco, Inc. and Serco plc. In this role, you will develop and effectively communicate incisive research and analytical insights, while using discretion and maintenance of strict confidentiality. You will be exposed to individual bid pursuits, in the context of a larger strategic initiative, which will greatly increase your knowledge of roadmap development.
During your internship, you will gain exposure to the Serco's technology, business development, and strategy. In addition, you will gain exposure to the Senior Leadership Team and functional leads through a leading interviews and knowledge capture.
In this role, you will:
Help establish technology roadmap/playbook that is aligned to corporate strategy
Perform knowledge capture though interviews, research, and market scanning
Assist collecting and documenting descriptions of existing digital solutions from across business units
Assist in the design of the ETO team's business processes, leaning heavily on a spirit of continuous improvement.
Develop documentation and deliver training needed to institute these processes across the broader Serco Inc. team.
Support the administration, selection, and management of software tools and subscriptions used by the ETO organization.
Conduct analyses support digital transformation; identify sets of opportunities or customers to create logical, actionable recommendations and develop recommendations for implementation.
Perform foundational research on new/adjacent market spaces for potential entry by Serco; craft the associated narrative and supporting visualizations, develop business case recommendations, and create implementation steps.
Synthesize publicly available data and proprietary Serco information to develop incisive analysis of our market environment, competitive environment, and the specific players that comprise them. Actively and consistently identify implications for Serco.
Qualifications
To be sucessful in this role, you will have:
Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred fields of study: Business, Economics, Technology, or a related field of study.
Ideal candidates are rising juniors and seniors.
Proficient in Microsoft Office with comfort running complex pivot tables and Excel formulas.
Ability to collect data across multiple sources and synthesize findings into an inclusive analysis with compelling visualizations of data and research.
Strong presentation skills desired.
Self-motivated with a strong work initiative and attention to detail.
Strong customer service, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated experience collaborating in a team environment.
Passion for learning with a wide degree of creativity and curiosity.
