Reports to: Transmission Safety Supervisor
Location: Office location will be in the area supported by this position
JOB SUMMARY
Position will be filled at Exempt Level 4-6 depending on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. As part of the Power Delivery Safety team, the S&H Specialist will be responsible for providing Safety Leadership to the workgroups they support. The job filled from this posting will support the following workgroups:
1) Oakley TMC 5) Newnan TMC
2) Conyers TMC 6) Klondike Training Center
3) Ponce TMC 7) Geo Solution & Services
4) Atlanta Road TMC
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop relationship with the First Line Supervisors (FLS) and Managers in the areas you support.
Keep up with the daily projects that crews are working on and communicate with FLS to understand the experience level of crews performing these projects.
Spend the majority of your time in the field with the crews you support to assure they have the proper level of safety support they need to do the job.
Work with management, employees and safety committees in implementing injury avoidance and accident prevention programs and providing safety training
Develop, coordinate, facilitate & monitor transmission safety programs, policies and initiatives.
Maintain knowledge of current OSHA laws and regulations as they apply to Power Delivery work to ensure compliance.
Interface with regulatory agencies and the corporate safety & health department.
Be involved in employee safety committees in the areas you support.
Investigate safety & non-compliance events.
Champion Human Performance and Learning Event efforts.
Promote Georgia Power's Southern Lifestyle, Functional Movement, and Wellness initiatives.
Model, promote and support an employee-owned safety culture that takes pride in Pursuing Safety Excellence, training and implementing S.T.E.P and Critical Risk Plans.
Support team initiatives around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Conduct and/or participate in audits, STEP observations, inspections, and self -assessments.
Conduct general and departmental safety meetings.
Identify safety training needs and provide safety training in applicable areas.
Represent the areas supported during audits.
Provide back-up coverage and assistance to Safety Specialist peers.
Work in partnership and cooperation with the Transmission Methods & Training Specialists to ensure that a consistent message reaches employees.
Must be available to work assigned storm duty or excess straight time, which could include evenings, weekends, holidays and overnight travel.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Certification in safety related field or college degree is a plus
Experience Requirements:
Minimum of five years of Transmission and/or Distribution experience is required.
Minimum of five years field experience in Transmission is strongly preferred.
Field experiences as safety professional a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience in Leadership role(s) is a plus.
Trainer experience is a plus.
Good oral and written communication skills are essential.
Demonstrated presentation skills are important.
Excellent relationship skills are required.
Credibility with employees and leadership is essential.
Involvement in safety committees and safety leadership activities preferred.
Human Performance knowledge and experience with Learning Events preferred.
Knowledge of Transmission work is required.
General knowledge of specifications and procedures is required.
Knowledge of Section 0 and OSHA Compliance Regulations is desired.
Prefer knowledge of accident prevention and incident investigation best practices.
Formal safety training a plus.
Computer skills required. (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Mobile computing skills are a plus. i.e. iPad or equivalent and applications
