Job Description

The Azure Arc team is connecting the rest of the world's computing power to Azure. As Azure Arc team, we extend Azure's cloud capabilities to on-premises, multi-cloud, and edge environments, simplifying the management of servers and Kubernetes environments. By projecting servers and Kubernetes clusters into Azure Resource Manager, customers can easily manage configurations and applications, enable monitoring and security, and deploy 1st and 3rd party applications.

As a Principal Software Engineer on the Azure Arc team, you will collaborate with a dynamic team and contribute to all aspects of the stack, from agents running on servers and Kubernetes clusters to high-scale, globally distributed cloud services. You'll integrate with other Azure services and create solutions using C#, Go, Kubernetes, Linux, Windows Server, and open-source technologies.

You will have end-to-end ownership of your areas, including architecture, design, code, testing, and telemetry coverage. As a technical leader on the team, you will review your peers' work and mentor early-career engineers. Responsibilities

  • Drives engineering initiatives with focus on technical direction, quality, usability & performance.

  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance, maintainability and reliability of our services and components.

  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario and develops design documents, drives project and release plans.

  • Participate in Livesite operations with emphasis on timely response, delivery & satisfaction for stakeholders.

  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

  • Share knowledge with colleagues via code and design reviews.

  • Collaborate across internal & external stakeholders providing leadership and mentoring.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++, C#, Java, Golang or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of experience designing and implementing distributed systems.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science

  • OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++, C#, Java, Golang or Python

  • OR master's degree in computer science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++, C#, Java, Golang or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Prior experience or strong knowledge in developing and maintaining cloud services hosted in Azure, or other similar Cloud platforms.

  • Ability to engage in site-reliability engineering practices.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
