Description:

We have an exciting position at Caterpillar for a Senior Accounting Business Analyst ( internally known as a Senior Staff Accountant II) to support our Global Financial Services Division. A successful candidate will be knowledgeable on a variety of accounting functions but generally has specialized areas of responsibility.

The position provides support, leadership and direction to Caterpillar BOBJ Financial Consolidations and reporting system, while protecting Caterpillar's data integrity. Responsible for creating a vision for the future, understanding the financial reporting impact on Caterpillar's business unit reporting strategies, and providing the appropriate financial reporting and tools to Global users. The primary responsibility of the position is to provide worldwide customer reporting support for the Finance Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), develop reports in SAP Business Objects (BOBJ), and work on SAP BOBJ upgrade projects. This position is the primary contact for approximately 800 Finance customers worldwide that depend on the process to accurately and timely process financial records vital to external reporting of Caterpillar's results. It requires detailed knowledge of the primary reporting tool (SAP Business Objects) as well as the data and processes in the system to support independent customer data views. In addition, the position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of data, the timing of the processes, and that controls are maintained through vigilant security. Providing regular training to end users and customers is also essential. The incumbent has the ability to accomplish complex and/or technical analysis, and utilizes data gathered by others to render an accounting opinion or business decision. Incumbent will also provide advice/recommendations to business unit managers and leaders often working on tactical and strategic business issues.

Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Work with Corporate consolidations team during monthly and quarterly book closing and ensure financial results in EDW system match the Corporate results

  • Work with Corporate Information system team and ensure data from feeder systems are loaded to EDW accurately and available for reporting to users

  • Establish long-term vision of SAP BOBJ Financial reporting system and corresponding Business unit reporting requirements.

  • Participate on or lead projects for enhancements of BOBJ reporting tool, BOBJ system upgrades.

  • Analyze/benchmark system performance, reports trends and problems affecting system performance and make recommendations for corrective actions and/or obtain GIS Team support.

  • Development and maintenance of queries and reports in enterprise systems that relate to Cat Business unit and legal entity reporting. These reports are utilized by the company business unit accounting teams in the profitability management and financial analysis of the core lines of business.

  • Participating in accomplishment of continuous improvement objectives for the department. Progress toward accomplishment of these is measured through maintenance of necessary measurements and analysis of associated data. Participating in the identification of problem areas and development of resolutions to address them.

  • Accounting user representative for financial systems

Incumbent must demonstrate specific accounting knowledge and independently handle accounting issues. Accounting tasks can be varied in areas such as:

  • Management accounting, including profit center, service center business unit reporting

  • Providing financial guidance on cross-functional or business unit product teams

  • Communicating / consulting to broader (worldwide) audience on financial accounting issues

  • Redesigning and implementing financial systems

  • Drive behavior (ability to influence management directions) in accordance with financial targets and business unit / division / enterprise strategy

Basic Requirements:

  • 4-year degree, preferably in accounting

  • 6-8 years of accounting experience

  • A strong background in finance, accounting, and Information Systems is also needed

  • Must be knowledgeable in SAP BOBJ Tool and financial system, management accounting and reporting tools.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Accounting Certification (CPA/CMA)

  • Strong business analytic skills including SQL, Snowflake, Teradata, SAP Business Objects desired

  • Proven record of success and accomplishments at lower levels, preferably with prior supervisory experience

  • Initiative, leadership, good judgment and superior communication skills

  • Strong analytical, process improvement, problem solving, and human relations skills

  • Domestic relocation is available for those who qualify
