This Opportunity

We are seeking a Technical Director - Mineral Process Engineering to join our Lakewood, CO office. In this role you will be responsible for developing a process team and providing subject matter expertise on mineral processing operations. The Technical Director is a hard-working, creative thinker with a passion for the hands-on approach. The candidate will lead technical teams in the successful development and implementation of various mineral processing systems. Responsibilities include client interface, project design, technology implementation, system planning and optimization, training, permitting, technical and project reporting, and mentoring and coaching more junior engineers. An important goal for this position is to develop and grow a mineral processing team in the US in collaboration with our existing Canadian team.

The candidate will be equally comfortable in the office and on site where they will be exposed to site operations, and a diversity of conditions and cultures. The Technical Director is able to lead technical teams remotely, perform field reporting and operational planning, and implement technical project elements. This position will manage junior engineers and technicians on project teams and assist discipline supervisors in building an efficient work force. Technical responsibilities may include site selection, process flow and design, equipment selection and installation, water treatment, tailings management and optimization of processing systems.

The Technical Director will also contribute to assessment of the economic and environmental feasibility of process systems, engage with feasibility study teams and evaluate means of safely and efficiently processing minerals and byproduct streams. Responsibilities may also include senior direction of installation, commissioning of mining and processing equipment, writing reports, and making presentations. Your Impact

The Technical Director will spend most of their time providing senior technical support and oversight on project assignments to ensure that projects are completed correctly, within budget and on time. Standard project assignments include conducting complex engineering, scientific assessment and analysis, and/or managing tasks or projects. The candidate is expected to prepare technical proposals and reports, in whole or in part, depending on the size and complexity of the document, and/or to manage the preparation of the proposals and reports associated with the projects they manage. The Technical Director will provide review of technical deliverables and proposal. The candidate will typically have moderate to high level business development and client management responsibilities. The candidate will need to report to one of our western offices at least three days per week or as needed for meetings and client events.

  • Responsible for overseeing development of design criteria, mass balance, process flow diagrams, selection and sizing of equipment, and process and piping diagrams.

  • Responsible for oversight of laboratory testing programs including test planning, data analysis, and conclusions.

  • Responsible for oversight of capex and opex development.

  • Responsible for making correct interpretations of findings and recognizes and identifies inconsistent or inappropriate results; knows how and when to apply standard practices and techniques to unusual situations; knows when to consult with project manager and/or other appropriate more senior-level technical professional egarding how to resolve a problem, respond to a question or take an action that is appropriate.

  • Motivates, trains and mentors subordinate staff assigned to his/her tasks or projects.

  • Assumes project director responsibility to provide oversight for large tasks or projects by working with the project manager or appropriate more senior-level technical professional; develops project strategy and scope, perhaps in conjunction with more senior personnel; develops realistic budget and is accountable for them; provides review of project deliverables.

  • Manages and communicates results, budget and schedule information to the client, project manager and appropriate operations management.

  • Represents WSP and interacts in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives.

  • Responsible for ensuring WSP's administrative and financial policies and procedures as well as the methods and procedures specific to his/her specific discipline are followed.

  • Understands, applies and oversees safety requirements in the field.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Additional Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Expected to participate, ideally with a leadership position, in an international technical organization.

  • Encouraged to prepare technical papers for external publications, and to make presentations to professional or client groups.

  • Responsible for the identification of new clients and/or developing additional work within an existing project or with an existing client.

  • May supervise field activities.

Who You Are

  • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in mineral processing, chemical, or mining engineering (at minimum);

  • A minimum of 12+ years' experience in the planning, implementation, and execution of mining engineering projects.

  • Experience in a client facing role where required to receive and address client concerns

  • Good scientific and analytical understanding of mineral processing and effective optimization techniques

  • Self-motivated, able to prioritize, and work with minimal guidance

  • Strong commitment to and experience in developing effective relationships with key stakeholders and diverse teams

  • Strong problem-solving and creative analytical thinking skills

  • Staff management and leadership ability.

  • Demonstrated maturity in judgment, initiative and client relations.

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability and willingness to develop business from new and existing clients.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. May travel occasionally to project sites, including sites remote from the office.

  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening

  • PE Desirable or Ability to obtain or Qualified Person per SME standards

Compensation:

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $130,300 - $226,050
