Summary

This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII.

The SkillBridge intern will train as a Configuration Analyst. The position plans and coordinates preparation of project documentation, such as engineering drawings, production specifications and schedules, and contract modifications, to ensure customer contract requirements are met. Reviews contract to determine documentation required for each phase of project, applying knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes. Analyzes proposed changes of product design to determine effect on overall product and system. Coordinates modification records for management control. Establishes change orders and prepares for change authorization and documentation by company and subcontractor. Reviews and analyzes released engineering change data and coordinates changes with engineering, quality, support, manufacturing, and engineering data control activities.

Desired End State (4month target)

  • At the end of four months, the intern will be able to

  • Manage a baseline of hardware, software, and equipment for a major simulations network

  • Write policy and assist in preparing engineering contract deliverables as part of an operational and support network team

  • Analyze technical drawings for completeness and assist in ensuring that all information required by the USAF is included in the product

  • Identify and implement configuration management processes, review and recommend improvements to existing processes

  • Configuration identification of software and documentation, including assigning unique ID numbers and ensuring version control, maintain version control of software, hardware, and documentation.

  • Coordinating with customers and subcontractors to merge external documentation input into common program-controlled documents.

  • Participate in joint stakeholder IPTs and team meetings.

Program of Instruction

Internship Locations: Orlando, FL, or O'Fallon, IL

Training Plan

Phase 1 - Basics

  • Week 1: In processing, Introductions/office familiarization, Introduction to CM software applications

  • Week 2: Intro to Configuration Management topics, general requirements analysis, interface with Data Management

  • Week 3: Intro to Configuration Policy, Intro to Hardware Baseline Management

  • Week 4: Intro to Software Baseline Management, Intro to Knowledge Management

  • Week 5: Intro to Contract Deliverable Management, Intro to Technical Drawings

Phase 2 - Systems Operation

  • Week 6: Review technical drawings for completeness

  • Week 7: MAF DMO network hardware and software configuration status accounting

  • Week 8: MAF DMO configuration management planning

  • Week 9: MAF DMO network hardware, software, and equipment government furnished equipment accounting

Phase 3 - Troubleshooting & Maintenance, NCTE Processes and Administration

  • Week 10: Network installation impacts on configuration management planning

  • Week 11: Physical Configuration Audit support and reporting

  • Week 12: MAF DMO DTCN site survey process impacts on CM planning

  • Week 13: Data Management input to Configuration Management

Additional Goals

  • Model Based System Engineering interfaces with Configuration Management

  • CM impacts in systems refresh planning

  • Configuration Management and Knowledge Management techniques

  • MAF DMO new capability planning impacts on Configuration Management

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Active-Duty Military ONLY, within final 180 days of active-duty service. Applications accepted within final 12 months of active-duty service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.

  • SECRET security clearance required

  • Background in configuration management or IT software management

Physical Requirements

Will be primarily working and training in an office environment.
