Job Description:
Caterpillar's North American Product Marketing team in Global Construction & Infrastructure (GCI) is hiring a Product Marketing Consultant (PMC) with a focus on Excavation (EXD) products.
In this role, you will use your expertise as a trusted advisor to provide consultation to the four product families that comprise EXD. You will make commercial decisions and recommendations for strategic advantage that contribute to GCI's short-term business objectives and long-term leadership position. With a primary lens on PINS (Unit and Parts Bias), Sales Variance, Services Growth (e.g. CVA @ Point of Sale), NPI Timeliness / Phase In / Phase Out and S&OP (e.g. Forecast Accuracy, Order Conformance), you will be the day-to-day -conduit- between GCI and our global EXD teams, driving for alignment as we develop the go-to-market strategy. You will partner with our GCI field teams to execute the strategy.
Specifically, as the Product Marketing Consultant , you can expect to:
Maintain regular contact with EXD Global Product Managers and their teams (Global Market Managers, Area Managers), GCI (Region Managers, Industry Managers, Sales Reps), Global Machine Pricing, and Cat Finance/Insurance to drive strategy alignment.
Enable continued execution of GCI's Top 5 Tactics strategy by identifying and communicating Best Practices across the business.
Develop product expertise within the complex, globally sourced EXD portfolio, and the myriad segments/industries these products are sold into.
Create merchandising programs that support our field teams with execution of their goals, while balancing PINS and Sales Variance.
Lead analysis of global competitors' merchandising strengths/weaknesses, and their threats to Caterpillar's EXD business.
Represent the Voice of GCI on Product Group-driven OPACC initiatives.
Ensure alignment between GCI and EXD Product Groups on all commercial aspects of the business (quarterback role within GCI).
Quickly identify commercial issues using a fact-based approach, identify recommendations to overcome these issues, and develop turnaround plans.
Lead Voice of Customer (VOC) and Voice of Dealer (VOD) initiatives to ensure EXD products are designed to drive profitability with our customers and dealers.
Develop challenging yet achievable PINS commitments for Gateway 3 reviews within the NPI process.
Partner with GCI field teams to develop and execute Where to Win (W2W) and How to Win (H2W) tactics.
Collaborate internally to drive incremental OPACC via Cat Work Tools usage on EXD products.
Leverage S&OP tools/processes to ensure demand and supply are balanced in a matter that delivers the right product in the right configuration at the right time.
Partner with Product Application Specialists (PAS) to create and deliver product and application training, in both E-learning and Face to Face formats.
Consult with our GCI field teams on Sales Variance usage, to ensure we aggressively pursue deals while minimizing the risk of overspending.
Provide day-to-day support to our field teams.
To be successful in this role, you must bring (Basic Qualifications) :
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Marketing, Engineering or Business
At least 8 years progressively responsible commercial marketing experience

Field-based marketing & sales experience working with dealers and customers
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and keen sense of self awareness, to persuade others, regardless of position or salary grade
Strong organizational, planning, project, and budget management skills
Strong understanding of Cat products and the segments/industries where they are sold.
Exceptional Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint capabilities
General understanding of Caterpillar and Cat dealer processes, including ABP, LTF, Sales Variance, S&OP, and Merchandising
This position is located in Peoria, IL and requires up to 20% travel.
Relocation assistance is available for this position.
