Working with HR Planning and Operations team (HRPO) , you will engage and partner with global Employee Relations (ER) Leadership in the strategic planning, design, and deployment of our most critical, high-impact, and transformational ER programs. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Drive day-to-day Operations support with our Employee Relations Team and deliver on a portfolio of high-impact ER initiatives and projects:
Within 30 days of employment: become competent in VMware's business guidelines, our HR Operating model, our HR Planning and Operations Solution Delivery model, and standard ER operations.
Within 60 days of employment: you will be managing a portfolio of ER projects including global triage/queue management, key results, and trend reporting, and ensure the successful execution, delivery, and adoption of ER projects/programs within the team.
Within 180 days, you will be identifying and acting on opportunities that address quality gaps and data fidelity, and help to increase communication, collaboration, and alignment across our global Employee Relations domain. You will plan and lead broader cross-functional initiatives and be responsible for continuous improvement in key ER Operations areas.
Throughout your first year, you will be taking advantage of opportunities to learn and grow your career by scheduling regular development discussions with your manager, learning about other HR COE areas of interest, volunteering to work on other exciting HR projects and initiatives, attending one of our many learning sessions or development-related events offered, expanding your global network, and much more.
The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
The HRPO Team is responsible for HR Business Operations working closing with senior leadership to strategically plan, operationalize, and land solutions that solve business needs and deliver key results. In this role you will:
Regularly monitor the global case management queue to ensure cases are assigned and managed within established SLA timeframes.
Maintain and produce daily, weekly, and monthly operational and business reports which will require strong analytical skills and the ability to compile and generate reports containing highly confidential data.
Ensure we are being data driven and using insights to steer decision-making and gather business insights. Analyze ER data to ascertain organizational trends, deliver quantitative analysis, and provide insights to leadership on trends and potential workplace risks.
Partner closely with ER Leadership to develop cutting edge policies, guidelines, frameworks, and procedures to achieve maximum efficiency and ensure we always operate with VMware's core values and culture in mind.
Use Continuous Process Improvement methods to inspire and improve quality. Be an expert user of the ER Case Management tool so you can help the team streamline processes and procedures that drive effectiveness and efficiency (productivity, triage and queue management, escalations, aged incidents, etc.). Automate whenever possible.
Be passionate about the quality and work we deliver, and continuously strive to improve our Employee Relations experience.
Partner with ER leadership in the implementation and adherence to SLAs. Monitor and working closely with the ER Leadership Team to ensure all operational KPIs and metrics are being measured and met.
Drive a high standard of data fidelity, applying your knowledge to put audits in place that ensure clean and accurate data.
Partner and/or lead ER-focused projects, developing project plans, dependencies / risks / mitigations, readiness, deployment excellence, and training enablement.
Partner closely with HR Tech to engage, manage, and collaborate with our ER Case Mgmt vendor (HR Acuity) regarding system upgrades, custom reports and dashboards, and reporting of bugs / issues.
Collect and define new functionality, usability, and reliability requirements in partnership with the ER tool users. Evaluate new system enhancements to determine which ones to adopt and when, then test, train and support new and enhanced functionality. This includes executing user-acceptance test plans to ensure the system changes are error-free and meet the approved requirements and design.
As needed: other fun, interesting, and important projects that deliver business value and key results.
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
The hiring manager for this role is Jonathan Biard who serves as the Senior Director of our HR Planning and Operations Team (HRPO) and Chief of Staff to the HR Executive Leadership Team. His management style is about encouraging and growing each team member to apply her/his expertise in every situation, being a servant leader who is always available to regularly coach and support his team, and acknowledging small and big wins.
There are six amazing people on our team. Four team members serve as Portfolio/Program Managers, each supporting an HR Priority Portfolio and one or more Priority Leads (HR Executive Leader). One team member is a Project Manager supporting specific high-impact HR COE solutions. You will be a Senior Program Manager focused on Employee Relations Operations. Our scope is broad and strategic, driving results and business operations spanning across the entire HR organization (and often impacting the entire company). Our team is currently distributed across California, Texas, and Washington.
Where is the role located?
This role is flexible and will not be assigned to a fixed office location. This means it can be done from anywhere as long as there is a strong internet connection and limited distractions. VMware has a policy to empower employees with choice to work from wherever they will be the most productive and healthy, whether that be at home, a VMware office, or a coffee shop. As the world continues to open up again, there may be an opportunity to travel 1-2 times a year to collaborate face-to-face with the team or COE project teams.

What would you say are the most important skills and previous experiences that are important to the success of this role?
5-7 years of relevant experience working in an Operations or Employee Relations function focused on case/incident management, queue and workflow operations, and process management. A demonstrated understanding of how to develop, implement and improve processes and optimize workflows.
Flexibility and desire to work in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment that requires juggling multiple tasks/projects at same time. We are a global team with multiple time zones, and regional nuisances that often define how and when work is done. We strive for consistency and simplification wherever possible, but we must be flexible and make sure we always do the right thing for the business and our employees.
The ability to professionally navigate in an environment that will, at times, expose you to highly confidential or extremely sensitive information. Requires a high degree of integrity, sensitivity and emotional intelligence and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within VMware.
Strong analytical skills - able to collect (data mine), organize, analyze, and disseminate a significant amount of highly sensitive and confidential information. Demonstrated ability to organize information and processes in a logical and efficient manner to make data-driven decisions.
Project management skills including the ability to define the project scope, establish a timeline, manage resources, communicate status, and lead the delivery of results of numerous concurrent projects and tasks in a fast-paced and rapidly growing environment.
Passionate about delivering a top-notch customer service experience both in-person and virtually. Ability to blend creativity, problem solving, and systems skills to support end-users. Able to maintain dynamic troubleshooting skills while dealing with ambiguous situations or issues.
