Senior Communications Specialist

Mossville, IL

Job summary:

In the role, you will design, develop, produce, and consult on a variety of internal communications materials and media. This role may collaborate on external communications on a variety of topics. You will be depended on as an expert to advise and collaborate with the leaders and employees of Caterpillar.

What you will do:

  • Consulting with managers to translate messages using the power of words, images, sounds and animation.

  • Coaching leaders, managers, and other employees involved in any communication events or presentations.

  • Advising organization on all aspects of communication formats to ensure clarity and accuracy of message.

  • Conducting final review and edits before internal facility communications are released.

  • Collaborate with organizational & talent and development team on content creation.

  • Develop key messaging for leadership development.

  • Create messaging content to drive engagement around corporate employee survey and action planning.

  • Collaborate with facility communicators on key messages.

  • Manage and develop communications in collaboration with leadership on HR topics and messaging.

  • Support VP specific messaging within facilities

  • Lead Lean communication projects to drive effectiveness and efficiencies.

Degree Requirement:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited Materials Science, Metallurgy, or equivalent program.

Skills you must have:

Organizational Communications: Expert level knowledge of techniques and media for organizational communication; ability to utilize relevant tools to communicate information about the organization internally and externally.

Effective Communications: Expert level understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Flexibility and Adaptability: Extensive knowledge of successful approaches and techniques for dealing with change; ability to adapt to a changing environment and be comfortable with change.

Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Expert level knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.

Effectiveness Measurement: Working knowledge of effective measurement techniques and ability to measure the quality and quantity of work effort for the purpose of improvement.

Interpersonal Relationships: Extensive knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

Initiative: Being proactive and committing to action on self-identified job responsibilities and challenges; ability to seek out work and the drive to accomplish goals.

Influencing: Working knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.

Top candidates will also have:

  • Bachelor's or Graduate level degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver professional level Powerpoint presentations and graphics.

  • Strong writing skills

  • Experience as a business unit or corporate level communicator

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
