This Opportunity

Takes part in applying local technical assistance for collecting, interpreting, publishing, and warehousing of data for transportation related analysis including market research, travel patterns, logistics, aggregation of other data sets including environmental justice, equity, modal networks to extract and apply meaning. Tasks may include basic assistance with providing information and analysis as it applies to travel forecasting. current travel patterns, land use, crash data, equity and environmental justice data, resilience and climate data, behavior and trends. Ability to efficiently clean and clarify accurate and concise documentation. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Under general supervision, assist with sourcing, collecting, compiling, and analyzing structured and unstructured data from a variety of travel and transportation sources, financial reports, computer-generated reports, and other matrices and disparate sources.

  • Assist with performing basic professional data scientist work with identifying the data-analytics problems, data anomalies that offer the greatest opportunities to the assigned task.

  • Under general supervision, assist with preparing transportation applications for automated data analysis, data, visualizations, dashboards, and reports summarizing research and specifications with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using dashboards, tables, charts, calculations, and illustrations.

  • Apply Statistical and Machine Learning methods to specific transportation and safety analytics problems and data.

  • Ensure data quality throughout all stages of acquisition and processing, including such areas as data sourcing/collection, ground truth generation, normalization, transformation, cleaning, validating, and cross-lingual alignment/mapping, etc.

  • Under general supervision, assist with assigned aspects of the design, development, evaluation, and release of highly innovative models that elevate the customer experience and track impact over time.

  • Triage client requests to ensure project success to include completion in time and for the results to be useful.

  • Assist with professional deliverables on projects and proposals.

  • Other duties as required by business needs.

  • Complete training on assigned tasks.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in math, computer programming, statistics data analysis, urban planning, transportation, or related field. Master's degree preferred.

  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post baccalaureate work experience working in the transportation or related field as a data scientist/analyst.

  • Familiarity with transportation data sources including counts and data sources including Google API, Replica, StreetLight and Inrix, GTFS, transit ridership, crash data, and equity information.

  • Strong R skills including the ability to create custom dashboards in R Shiny.

  • Proficiency with databases, including strong SQL skills.

  • Strong geospatial analysis skills, ideally in R and Postgres/PostGIS.

  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau), and big data technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark).

  • Familiarity with data management practices, performing exploratory data analysis, and employing research techniques.

  • Analytical mindset and interest in applications for transportation with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations, applying logic, and making decisions.

  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, and effectively articulating complex data in a simple, actionable manner.

  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

  • High level of mathematical acumen.

  • Familiarity with statistics and predictive models.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $68,800 - $103,200
