What You'll Do Here The mission of Legal Operations at Cengage Group is to ensure efficient delivery of legal services, while also enabling Legal initiatives and overall strategic vision. LegalOps helps to unlock capacity across the department through technology, process, and resource management while also prioritizing cost containment. The eBilling + Matter Analyst will be ultimately responsible for the onboarding and ongoing maintenance of all outside counsel and other legal vendors, as well as matter creation, management, and periodic hygiene processes. The eBilling + Matter Analyst will have primary responsibility to ensure the timely review and approval of all outside counsel invoices, including acting as the -first line of defense- against violations of Cengage Groups Outside Counsel Guidelines. Responsibilities / Scope + Lead the outside counsel and legal vendor onboarding process, including set-up in Cengage Group's vendor management systems, and facilitating privacy and data security review (as needed). + Lead the new matter creation process, including setup in relevant eBilling/matter management tools. + Research, resolve, and respond to inquiries related to outside counsel invoicing, spend, matter setup and configuration, etc. from inside and outside the Legal department. + Communicate, and maintain regular communication, with billing/administrative contacts from outside counsel and other legal vendors. + Manage the monthly and quarterly accrual process in collaboration with Accounting and Business Unit Finance Partners. + Assist members of the Legal Leadership Team with periodic financial forecasting/budgeting exercises, as needed. + Act as the subject matter expert of the Legal team's matter management and eBilling platform (Brightflag). + Partner with other LegalOps colleagues to design and improve matter management, intake, and billing, and accrual workflows. + Perform other duties as assigned to meet department goals. Required Skills / Experience + Minimum 5 years' related experience, preferably in a law firm or corporate Legal department; experience with legal invoicing strongly preferred. + Knowledge of the Legal industry, specifically Legal Operations as an emerging subject area + Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfort interacting with peers and leaders within the legal department + Ability to handle critical information in a professional, confidential manner + Curious, , -self-starter- approach to identifying problems and creating solutions + Proficiency in Microsoft Office + Familiarity with matter management/eBilling and enterprise legal management tools preferred + Ability to quickly learn new systems, tools, and processes Cengage Group is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer.
