GENERAL SUMMARY
The purpose of this internship is to provide an on-the-job training program for high school and college students as well as entry level professional who are interested in an administrative career in healthcare. In addition, this program exposes students to job opportunities within CHKD while simultaneously developing professional skills/knowledge focused on patient safety, communication skills, and other competencies essential to successful practice. The intern will work under the general direction of an assigned Mentor who will provide a variety of meaning work experiences in outpatient clinics. Reports to the department management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Responsibilities :
Answers telephones, supports healthcare administrative work at patient registration or scheduling and shadows healthcare administrative professionals.
Participates in assigned educational activities.
Greet, instruct, direct and assist patients and visitors upon arrival in the service area.
Learn and understand all aspects of the revenue cycle process to include but not limited to patient registration, insurance verification to confirm active policy, co-payment collection, authorization data entry and billing inquiry functions.
Work collaboratively with various departments on patient access related information.
Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Must be a rising senior in high school or HS graduate
Enrolled in a professional/technical program or college preferred.
Minimum commitment of 3 months.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office and patient care environments with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like. Occasional exposure to communicable diseases.
