Caterpillar is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer in Athens, GA. In this role, you will Provides technical expertise necessary to design all aspects of production, costs, quality, compliance to safety guidelines, and environmental requirements for manufacturing.
What you can look forward to doing in this role:
Perform technical analysis of manufacturing processes to support management decisions
Develop capital forecast as it relates to new product introduction, product capacity increases, machine replacement, and process continuous improvement
Development of new CNC programs using a combination of EIA and CAM programming
Writing of in-process inspection routines using Renishaw machine tool probes and macros
Design, build, deploy, and maintain all tooling and equipment necessary for the machining of MHE and STTT structures
Develop, document, and maintain the processes necessary to meet product design requirement while ensuring operator safety and achievement of quality goals
Validate function and/or dimensions of tooling, machines, and parts for continued process conformance
Develop and validate process cycle times by conducting time studies
Monitor process performance and quality by analyzing dimensional, OEE, process capability, and scrap/rework reports.
Troubleshoot day-to-day process issues, develop solutions, and monitor improvements
Respond to customer issues and lead process improvements
Collaborate with the product engineering, operations, and quality groups to improve product quality and manufacturability
Perform process improvement activities to reduce material and machining cost
Review NPI concepts, prints, and change notices for manufacturability; and
Provide cross shift support as necessary to support production
A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills and have:
Extensive Experiencein Decision Making and Critical Thinking : Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques to find root cause analysis of fixture and tooling problems.
A Working Knowledge of Judgment and Decision Making : Knowledge of the decision-making process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.
A Working Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing : Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to develop continuous improvements and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
Extensive Experiencein Manufacturing Processes : Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes and have ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process including with new product introductions (NPI's).
Top Candidates for this position may also have:
Experience with the machining of large, welded structures
Experience with CNC machining (preferably in milling/boring/reaming applications) with low carbon steel (ASTM A36 equivalent)
Experience with 3D CAD systems (Creo, Solidworks, or Inventor)
Experience in creating, modifying, and troubleshooting EIA NC code
Experience in CAM software (preferably Esprit)
Experience integrating Renishaw probe routines into CNC programs
Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Experience creating and maintaining routings in ERP (SAP preferred) systems
