The Opportunity

As a dedicated Business Risk and Controls Advisor Senior, you will identify and assess risks across the enterprise. Positioned in the first line of defense, The Risk Identification Assessment Profile (RIAP) program connects several risk programs into one streamlined program to create a continuous, simplified process that optimizes the measurement and reporting of USAA's risks.

You will partner and collaborate with Compliance and Risk Management, as well as Business Operations, IT, Audit Services, and Regulators to support risk and compliance-based initiatives. You will be responsible for supporting business leader adherence to the established risk framework and ongoing supervision of business controls including risk and control self-assessments, identification, and evaluation of control effectiveness, identifying control failures, facilitating remediation, internal and external audits and regulatory exams, and monitoring of risk exposures and strengthen the overall control environment. Additionally, you will lead risk assessment data and use critical thinking to identify key data-driven insights.

This position can work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and drive solutions for stronger controls, and in support of risk and/or regulatory compliance related initiatives which may include oversight of procedures/process, accurate regulatory reporting and filing, document governance, risk control self-assessments, procedure governance, control design, new product controls, Company or Staff Agency Third Party Governance, or quality governance.

  • Perform ongoing supervision and oversight of controls and shares knowledge with team members to evaluate the effectiveness of established business controls.

  • Responsible for risk data analysis, report preparation and trend analysis, using business intelligence tools.

  • Anticipate business needs and proactively finds opportunities to improve and strengthen the control environment through actionable insights.

  • Assist with translating control deficiencies into action plans and provides recommendations to enhance governance practices in alignment with frameworks.

  • Partner with team members to drive improvement efforts to correct or prevent unfavorable trends and assess the impacts.

  • Lead project team through concept, planning, execution, and implementation phases for effective and timely Risk remediation.

  • Counsel senior management on the status of their control environment related to risk identification and control weaknesses. Identify critical areas to monitor and brings up issues and findings to appropriate partners.

  • Build and maintain processes, procedures, and tools for handling exception alerts as they occur, including monitoring of resulting exception cases.

  • Provide control oversight to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.

  • Serve as a primary resource to team members.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are identified, measured, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum 6 years' experience supporting risk-related, compliance related, or business control design activities; OR 6 years of experience in a relevant quantitative field; OR Advanced degree or designation in a risk management or quantitative field, and 4 years of experience supporting risk-related, and/or compliance-related, or business control design activities; OR PhD in a risk management or quantitative field, and 2 years of experience supporting risk-related, and/or compliance-related, or business control design activities.

  • Knowledge of federal laws, rules, regulations, and applicable guidance to include OCC Heightened Standards, BSA/AML, REG E, UDAAP/UDAP, TILA/REG Z, SCRA, FCRA, MLA.

What sets you apart:

  • Experience as part of the governance team which is the primary central point of contact team for the Risk Identification, Assessment and Profile (RIAP) supporting the First Line of Defense or similar risk program.

  • Ability to problem solve or contribute to solving complex problems related to risk assessments and/or other risk programs.

  • Experience generating risk reports out of Salesforce RIAP tool (or comparable GRC tools) as needed.

  • Intermediate or advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivots, VLOOKUP's, various formulas).

  • General experience with Tableau.

  • Familiarity with common industry GRC tools.

  • Clear understanding of the lines of defense roles and responsibilities.

  • Ability to advocate for the first line of defense while interacting with various partners/negotiates where necessary.

  • Experience in building professional presentations, guidance documents and/or various management level reporting of risk programs.

  • Ability to analyze or map risk data to create comprehensive or specific risk perspectives.

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $89,990.00 - $161,990.00 .

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
