Marketing Administrative - Business & Industry Services

Job Summary:

Provides essential -Back Office- services to the Business Services group. The Business Services group operates in a dynamic environment aimed at providing tailored sophisticated energy solutions to our customers. These customers include municipalities, schools, universities, hospitals, Federal, general Industrial as well as to the commercial segment. Business Services is a licensed engineering firm as well as a general contractor operating primarily in the 23-county service area of Mississippi Power Company.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Accounting or applicable years of experience is a plus.

2+ years of similar related experience preferred

  • The position directly provides support to the Business & Industry Services team by being the knowledge point resource for compliance and processes & procedures related to contract routing, approvals, execution, registering and filing of permits and certifications, obtaining bonds, payment and processing of fees, tax obligations, permits, licenses, etc.

  • This position is the key liaison with Supply Chain and Accounting on the department's engineering and construction projects. This includes issuing job orders through JETS and Oracle for approved work orders as well as assembling subcontractor agreements through Supply Chain Management and routing those through approval.

  • Project Management Support: The position works closely with the Project Developer/Manager, the -PM-, to ensure that all the record keeping, processing and reporting is performed both prior to a project being awarded as well as during construction through to closing. Although the Project manager performs a lot of these duties, this position will back-stop performing those duties plus ensure that they are performed thoroughly and within policy requirements.

  • The position assists the PM in updating the Project Database regarding projects proposed, under contract, and closed.

  • The position is responsible for pulling data from the Project Database and preparing initial quarterly reports to identify how the Department is progressing related to projects underway including total revenues as well as net income to budget.

  • This position acts as the Compliance Coordinator for the Customer Service Organization group. This requires working with MPC Safety and Training to track all Marketing and Customer service Center personnel to ensure they are registered for training properly and that they are completing mandatory compliance training.

  • Business unit lead on Enterprise Foundations project poet number assignment, tasks, and provides support to Project Managers with tracking of detailed project revenues and expenses for each project on an accrual basis.

  • Key contact with the MS State Department of Revenue related to filing of MS Contractor's Tax and MS Use Tax applications for qualified customer projects.

  • Works with MPC Legal and MPC Accounting Research as well as SCS Federal Legal to obtain contract review.

  • Key contact with the following entities: MS Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, the MS Board of Contractors, US Dept of Energy, the MDA-Energy and Natural Resources Division for licensure renewals, changes, etc.

  • Consolidate and prepare monthly reporting within the business unit on actual and projected profit and loss statements utilizing financial metrics and data maintained in the business unit database.

  • Works closely with the business unit project development/managers in the development of individual responses to customer published RFQs and RFPs including printing, packaging, and delivery.

  • Participate on Company and System teams as required on issues relating to project tracking, business unit profitability, strategic planning within market segments, etc.

  • Other duties such as scheduling of meetings, food scheduling, ordering equipment and supplies, organizing customer/Company meetings as it relates to our workgroup, assisting in professional training scheduling, and helping team members with travel arrangements through Southern Travel as well as other general tasks as they may arise is part of the position requirement.

  • Must be able to work inter-departmentally with groups including Marketing, Accounting, Supply Chain, Legal, Compliance & Auditing, as well as Division Operations.

  • Must be able to work externally with customers, vendors, contractors, engineering firms, etc.

  • Must be able to quickly establish rapport with individuals and groups effectively.

  • Must apply analytical skills in problem solving.

  • Must have a -sense of urgency- and be able to multi-task and get work accomplished quickly with a heightened focus upon accuracy and organization all with an attention to detail.

  • Must be comfortable with and able to work within a structured setting of procedures, rules and regulations where compliance within such a framework is required.

  • Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to focus intensively on execution of work tasks.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with changing priorities and produce timely results.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products - particularly utilizing Excel spreadsheets and models

  • Basic project management skills.

  • Working knowledge of Enterprise Foundations, JETS, Oracle, and of utility accounting and regulatory framework preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs at times.

Work Location and Travel:

  • The team works in a dynamic office building environment together daily with frequent one-on-one interaction as well as team interactions.

  • The individual will be expected to leave the office from time to time and travel to other MPC work locations as well as potentially to customer locations, project construction sites, city and county offices and Federal offices within our service territory. Must have a current active driver's license.

  • The individual will have the opportunity to travel outside of MPC's service territory for training and conferences from time to time. Additional participation in committees as well as meetings at other Southern Company sites may be required from time to time.
