Telecom Analyst / Engineer (Hybrid Role)

*This position will be a hybrid role which will be primarily remote and the successful candidate can reside anywhere within the Southern Company's electric footprint*
JOB SUMMARY:
This position exists in the Telecom Core Services group inside the Telecom Services organization. Primary responsibilities include design, provisioning, delivery, documentation, and support of resilient, efficient connectivity services to meet business partner needs. The successful candidate is expected to be well-versed in the latest generation of telecommunication service delivery mediums and technologies: Telenium Service Management Layer, DWDM, Fiber, MPLS, Switched Ethernet, GPON, RF/Microwave, etc. The successful candidate is expected to display a team-based mindset and will often collaborate with others, both internal and external to the company, to deliver the best solution possible for the business partner need.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education / Experience:
Two-year degree in an electronics technology or equivalent experience in the telecommunications field is required.
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other technical discipline is preferred
Proven track record in support of engineering designs, problem resolution and project implementation expected

Technical / Leadership skills:
Understand/achieve business, Technology Organization, and departmental goals, strategies, and plans
Ability to provision and support telecommunication services over different technologies, management environments, and data repositories: Telenium Service Management Layer, Ciena Site Manager, Nokia NSP/NFMP, CLI, HP NA, GE PulseNet, IQLink, Adtran AOE, GIS/OSPInsight, etc.
In-depth knowledge of DWDM plus one or more of the following telecommunications transport technologies: SONET, SEL ICON, Nokia SARs or other similar Data Networking routers, GPON, fiber optics (electronics and cable), multiplex / DACS / CPE and Microwave.
Technical understanding of data networks, voice networks, SCADA, and other major applications that use the Southern Company telecommunications network
Experience partnering with telecommunication carriers and a deep understanding of carrier service offerings: MPLS, Switched Ethernet, other fiber-based solutions
Ability to keep management systems and data repositories in sync with the environment as change occurs
Understanding of Request Management processes
Understanding and ability to enhance and adhere to telecommunication service invoicing mechanisms
Understanding and ability to enhance and adhere to documentation standards for logical telecommunication services. Documentation standards include site drawings/as-builts, GIS applications, and logical service repository applications
Understanding of rules and regulations that govern the use of technology such as NERC CIP, Sarbanes-Oxley, and FCC licensing is a plus
Understanding of Change Management processes & workflow with the ability to manage the risk associated with maintaining and operating the Telecommunications systems across the service territory.
Ability to analyze information from multiple sources for complex problem resolution
Ability to lead a team, coordinating various workgroups to drive complex problem resolution in a timely and efficient manner.
Ability to design / engineer network modifications / additions from a field perspective
Ability to organize tasks and coordinate various employees, vendor / contractors, and customers / partners to meet project goals
Ability to work independently, prioritizing major tasks by overall impact to the company
Ability to communicate and work with all levels of management, vendors, and other internal and external groups and customers
Ability to effectively lead meetings, train personnel, and make presentations
Ability to effectively utilize standard Company computing applications (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
Ability to appropriately utilize documentation tools as required by specific job (Telenium, Remedy, Visio, etc.)

The Telecom job requires the ability to drive long distances, travel overnight, be subject to 24x7 call out, work shifts greater than 8 hrs, lift / carry items up to approx. 50 lbs, climb stairs / ladders, and work in areas requiring specific safety measures such as radio transmission sites, fiber optic transmission sites, power plants, substations, transmission right - of- ways, as well as various remote locations.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary responsibilities include the request management process, routing circuits in Telenium Service Management Layer, assisting with Change Management process, turning up individual circuit request in equipment, and documentation of Southern Company's telecommunication infrastructure.
