Qualifications

To be successful in one of these roles, you will have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

  • The ability to to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening

  • The ability to work in and/or relocate to Newport News, VA

  • The ability to travel up to 10% of the time as needed

  • The willingness and ability to obtain various certifications which may include:

  • OSHA certification.

  • Forklift certification.

  • Firewatch and Cable Installer certification.

  • A NAVSEA connector certification and NAVSEA Fiber termination certification.

  • A minimum of 1 year experience in any of the following areas:

  • Using power tools, assembling both large scale and intricate mechanical assemblies.

  • Drill holes, cut metal, shoot studs & use torque wrench

  • Ability to bolt/unbolt cableways, deck plates & equipment

  • Position, join, align, wrap & seal pipe & conduit sections

  • Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter

  • Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts

  • Elec testing reqs (i.e. ground checks, RSPT testing)

  • Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge

  • Band/pack MCTs/RISE

  • Layout & mounting of equipment

  • Close In Weapon Systems (CIWS)

  • General welding experience to include:

  • Carbon-arc gouge, ship fit, scribe foundations to suit ship

  • Pass steel/stainless SMAW & FCAW

  • Pass 5XXX aluminum MIG/aluminum 6G pipe TIG

  • Repair base material

  • Grind/plasma cut/fit/tack weld
