Qualifications
To be successful in one of these roles, you will have:
A high school diploma or equivalent
The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
The ability to to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening
The ability to work in and/or relocate to Newport News, VA
The ability to travel up to 10% of the time as needed
The willingness and ability to obtain various certifications which may include:
OSHA certification.
Forklift certification.
Firewatch and Cable Installer certification.
A NAVSEA connector certification and NAVSEA Fiber termination certification.
A minimum of 1 year experience in any of the following areas:
Using power tools, assembling both large scale and intricate mechanical assemblies.
Drill holes, cut metal, shoot studs & use torque wrench
Ability to bolt/unbolt cableways, deck plates & equipment
Position, join, align, wrap & seal pipe & conduit sections
Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter
Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts
Elec testing reqs (i.e. ground checks, RSPT testing)
Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge
Band/pack MCTs/RISE
Layout & mounting of equipment
Close In Weapon Systems (CIWS)
General welding experience to include:
Carbon-arc gouge, ship fit, scribe foundations to suit ship
Pass steel/stainless SMAW & FCAW
Pass 5XXX aluminum MIG/aluminum 6G pipe TIG
Repair base material
Grind/plasma cut/fit/tack weld
