Job Description:
Caterpillar is investing in our digital future and we're looking for a Data Architect within the Cat Digital Helios team to help maximize the value of Caterpillar's digital platform. Cat Digital is focused on accelerating services and parts growth by providing digital solutions through data analytics, innovation, and customer-focused solutions.
This role is a technical resource leveraging business requirements to solution reusable business-ready datasets to support applications, analytics, and business intelligence use cases across Cat Digital and the enterprise.
Key areas of accountability include participating in the development of Architecture Solutions for Strategic Cat Digital projects and programs; provide input into global technology roadmaps and application evolution plans; act as a researcher and evaluator of new technology, information or integration standards; and participate in IT digital strategy development for a specific technical or business domain.
Job Duties:
Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.
Overall data architecture, solution design, data quality, metadata management, or data governance.
Acts as team lead by providing technical leadership, guidance, and assistance to other team members across teams.
Work directly on complex problems and provide solutions aligned with overall objectives of Cat Digital.
Understand and evaluate business requirements that impact the data of the Caterpillar enterprise, dealership partners, and other internal and external customers.
Liaises with data creators to support project planning, training, guidance on standards, and the efficient creation/maintenance of high-quality data
Create the data management strategy and define continuous improvement goals of data quality, governance, and processes.
Lead communication across various lines of businesses and technology partners to constantly monitor, collect, review, and roadmap business data requirements, and related technology solutions.
Ensure compliance with the latest data standards supported by the company, and brand, legal, information security (data security and privacy compliance).
Maintain knowledge of functional technology of the data management systems as they change with upgrades and new releases.
Maintain existing data quality scorecard measurements, executing of scorecards, resolving exceptions with data owners and source systems.
Accountable to design robust, scalable database and data solutions supporting applications, analytics, and business intelligence.
Document data models for domains to be deployed including a logical data model, candidate source lists, and canonical formats.
Provide guidance and expertise on identifying source systems, developing data object pipeline specifications, metadata policies, as well as alignment of data governance efforts.
Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.
The position is challenged to identify problems quickly and correctly, some which may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action with oversight across many existing solutions.
Basic Requirements:
A 4-year degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience
6 years or more of experience in data management (data design, data quality, metadata, governance, etc.)
Demonstrated experience leading data management or software engineering projects.
Must have excellent communication and influential skills.
Top candidates will also have:
Understanding of information management concepts such as controlled vocabularies, authority control, data modeling, and schema design.
Strong knowledge of end-to-end data lifecycle across traditional data warehouses, relational databases, operational data stores, business intelligence reporting, as well as new concepts such as data fabrics, data mesh, and data lakehouse.
Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, data quality, data modeling, and data architecture concepts
Experience creating data solutions as well as conceptual and logical data models
Understanding of Agile SDLC implementation in public cloud eco-system including environments management, test automation, peer review, CI/CD, resource optimization, etc.
Familiarity with ML and data analytics
Understanding of enterprise data integration and analytical platforms (C3 IoT, Pentaho, Snaplogic,..)
Ability to work collaboratively in a complex, rapidly changing, and culturally diverse environment.
Ability to clearly communicate complex technical ideas, regardless of the technical capacity of the audience.
