What you'll do here:

National Geographic Learning content developers partner with subject matter experts to develop engaging content, primarily for Grades 6-12. As part of a high-performance team, a Science Senior Content Developer works with and manages in-house and out-of-house developers of educational products to clarify, strengthen, and enhance their quality.

  • Through detailed evaluation of content in different formats and in close collaboration with authors and subject matter experts, strives to achieve standards-based content that is accurate, clear, complete, current, legal, and consistent.

  • Recommends and implements innovative and effective pedagogical features and content based on market research and feedback.

  • Ensures content development follows accepted processes and standards focused around the target audience for optimal product success in the market.

  • Assists Product Development Manager, Supervising Content Developer, coworkers, authors, and other partners in developing a viable and attractive product premise.

  • Helps conceptualize and develop plans for products, including workflows and schedules.

  • Manages and assists with projects to meet objectives for customer acceptance, scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Works with content subject matter experts, development partners, and freelance professionals in the capacity dictated by project and department needs.

  • Works to meet submission requirements for state adoptions.

  • Works with technology teams to design and implement digital products.

Skills you will need here:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a science subject area.

  • Minimum of 4 years digital and/or print product development and editorial project management experience.

  • Tech savvy with a basic understanding of publishing technology, including Adobe InCopy and Acrobat Pro, in addition to Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills are critical.

  • Must be an excellent communicator and a standout colleague, and have strong interpersonal skills.

  • Must have the ability to work within budgets and schedules.

  • Ability to gather and synthesize information from a variety of sources.

Preferred:

  • Understanding of school publishing industry, preferably science/STEM.

  • Experience with science content and/or education.

  • Experience with instructional design, learning design, or curriculum design.
