WSP is seeking an Asphalt Manager to join their Construction Management team.
Your Impact
Role Summary:
Ensure asphalt materials are produced and placed as per the FDOT specifications by overseeing the FDOT Verification (VT) and Independent Verification (IV) processes, cross-checking with the FDOT Materials Acceptance and Certification (MAC) system, ensuring proper asphalt plant VT staffing, and responding to asphalt material failures.
Responsibilities:
Oversee asphalt plant VT and IV processes and manage asphalt plant VT staff.
Ensure the information in asphalt lot packages is correct and matches the information in MAC before it is submitted to Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) consultants.
Perform field reviews to ensure asphalt materials meet specifications. Examples include no segregation, bleeding, crushed aggregate, deformities, and surface smoothness deficiencies left in place. Work with CEI and Contractor to resolve non-compliance and offer technical support.
Address asphalt failures with CEI & contractor to ensure all materials meet specifications. Work with CEI Project Administrators (PA) on the MAC Material Acceptance and Resolution (MAR) process.
Establish and maintain excellent communication and coordination with FDOT team members, consultants, and contractors.
Perform Independent Assurance (IA) inspections on asphalt field technicians performing test method FM 5 509 Rolling Straightedge.
Perform asphalt plant visits and structural and friction course asphalt placement reviews on active Turnpike construction projects as needed (i.e., typically 2 plant visits and placement reviews per month).
Perform warranty reviews on asphalt pavements in the field. Estimated twenty (20) reviews per year.
Who You Are
Minimum Requirements:
Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing) and to large groups of people.
Ability to independently travel to project sites and occasionally travel with overnight stays at hotels.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, and possibly weekends. Overtime is not expected but may be necessary.
Knowledge and proficiency with current information technology and computer programs. Some examples include Microsoft Office, SharePoint, GIS, and Power BI.
Knowledge of engineering concepts, terminology, principles, and techniques
High school diploma.
7 years of experience on FDOT Construction projects
Experience with asphalt production & field placement is required.
CTQP Asphalt Plant Levels 1 & 2 is required.
CTQP Asphalt Paving Levels 1 & 2 is desired or should be obtained within the first year.
